Chapter 18
Robert wore an exasperated expression as he looked at Naomi. Naomi hurriedly said, "Let's play together. Do you want to play with my boyfriend without me?"
She added, "Naomi, just let the men play together. Let's play together." Two women grabbed Naomi and pulled her to the man sitting in the middle. "Come on, let's drink."
Outside the Elephant Bar, Kendrick answered the phone with a gloomy face. "How's the investigation going?" he asked.
"Mr. Zabel, I discovered that the cars with license plates Yrinas A00000 to Yrinas A99999 belong to a car rental company. I also learned that the 27,000-square-foot prime unit was never sold. The heads of Opulent Art Media Group and Regal Trading Co. Ltd. also have significant roles in Yrinas, and the directors of both companies haven't changed."
Listening to the phone call, Kendrick's gloomy expression vanished, replaced by a smile. "I knew it! It was all a sham! He loves to pretend, doesn't he? Robert, good for you. You hired so many people and rented so many luxury cars. You wouldn't force your parents to sell their only house to pay the rent, would you? Ha-ha!"
Kendrick happily hung up and sneered. Robert was quite good at pretending; he wanted to impress Marilyn, didn't he? He would tell Marilyn what Robert had done.
Kendrick entered the Elephant Bar. A man watching Marilyn informed him she was inside. Robert had already consumed a significant amount of wine. Naomi, too, had been pulled to sit next to the man in the middle by two women.
Seeing the man's hand approaching, Naomi quickly stood, flicking the hair from her forehead. "I'll go to the bathroom," she said.
After using the bathroom as an excuse, Naomi hurried away. The man in the middle stared at her. Under the flashing lights, Naomi's retreating figure was particularly alluring. He licked his lips. "Naomi is very proud."
"Why is she so proud?" one of the women asked disdainfully. "She carries a designer bag every day—who knows if it's real? Every time I ask about her family, she's evasive. I guess she's trying to impress people."
"It doesn't matter," the man said dismissively. "I'm only concerned that it's priceless. Money makes things easy."
He rolled up his sleeves, revealing a Submariner watch worth $16,500. The display immediately caught the two women's attention. They knew he was wealthy, but not this wealthy. Naomi had gotten lucky.
They had known Naomi for two or three years and had a friendly relationship, but were unaware of her background. Her boyfriend had mentioned a friend joining them and requested they introduce him to a suitable girl. After considering it, they chose Naomi.
They initially believed the man was merely wealthy—after all, he'd ordered thousands of dollars worth of wine—but now they realized he was extraordinarily rich. Had they known, they would have offered themselves. They understood regret was futile; the best course of action was to quickly get Naomi into his bed to gain more benefits.
