Chapter 126

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Lillie fumed. She and her five comrades were not ordinary citizens, but junior generals who had made significant contributions to their country during the war.

They would never have agreed to serve as bodyguards if Warren hadn't personally approached them. Moreover, Wendy, the most beautiful of the six and their leader, was the granddaughter of Hciace Newman, one of the Four Great War Heroes. After learning her grandfather intended to marry her off to a young man, Wendy was curious to meet him. Unfortunately, the young man—Severin—rejected her grandfather's proposal outright, without even meeting her! This upset Wendy greatly.

When she learned that the same young man needed bodyguards, she immediately approached Warren and requested the position. In truth, Wendy sought the job to catch a glimpse of Severin, a man her grandfather and Warren held in high regard, and to see if her attractiveness could sway his heart.

Upon meeting Severin, she was stunned to discover he had a wife and child! Her hopes of seducing him vanished. Severin's lack of interest in the six women confirmed his devotion to his wife.

Many people had contributed to Darshia during the war, and their contributions were ranked according to merit and combat ability. Junior and senior captain positions were considered prestigious. Above captains were junior and senior generals, then war chiefs (a very select few), and finally, the Four Great War Heroes—also known as war gods.

Of Severin's six bodyguards, Wendy was a senior general; the others were junior generals. Had they not been in plain clothes, makeup, and altered hairstyles, their high social standing would have been immediately apparent.

Megan's slanderous accusations about Lillie and the others having affairs with Severin naturally angered them. "What's the matter? Cat got your tongue? I hit the bullseye, didn't I?" Megan crowed, relishing Lillie's anger.

Lillie clenched her fists. If Megan were an ordinary person, she would have beaten her soundly. However, knowing their employer was extraordinary and that Megan was his sister-in-law, she restrained herself.

"Enough with your wild accusations, Megan. I'll have you removed if you continue this baseless slander!" Diane intervened, unable to tolerate her sister's cruelty any longer.

Severin then spoke. "Did you come here to insult my bodyguards? While I hired them as bodyguards, they are human beings with dignity. I expect you to watch your words."
