Chapter 223: Think I'm the Best
Nathael's words left Ronald deep in thought, clearly planning something. Olivia, with the servants' help, oversaw dinner preparations, resulting in a special meal. Except for Mary's absence and Sierra's failure to return, the dinner was cheerful.
"Maggie, ensure Mr. Harris's departure is properly managed," Ronald said humbly. "We owe him gratitude for his advice. Mr. Harris, we may still need your help in the future. Thank you in advance." Ronald showed respect and fondness for Nathael, almost as if admiring a younger family member, careful not to be presumptuous.
"I'll walk you," Maggie offered warmly.
"Okay," Nathael replied readily.
"Mary must be furious, but since Sierra hasn't returned, she probably knows she's in trouble," Maggie said cheerfully as she strolled with Nathael.
Ronald wouldn't be concerned if she took a little longer. Besides, the open surroundings eliminated concerns about eavesdropping.
Nathael noticed Maggie's hand at her side and felt the urge to hold it, but knew it wasn't appropriate. Holding her hand at the Camerons' house, especially given Mary's behavior, had been necessary to support Maggie. However, excessive affection in private might arouse Ronald's suspicion.
"Has Mary always treated you like this?" Nathael asked quietly, forcing himself to look away as they walked. Maggie paused, perhaps surprised.
"It's usually not this bad," Maggie explained softly. "Mostly teasing, but today she lost a lot of money and needed someone to vent on. Ronald will definitely ask you about the mortgage loan, right?"
"He will, and I'll transfer the assets to your name when the time comes," Nathael assured her confidently.
Maggie laughed. "Mr. Harris, are you trying to please me for some secret reason?"
Nathael gently tapped her forehead. "Wasn't it your plan to become the owner of the Camerons' assets one day?"
Maggie was surprised, remembering a recent joke with Diana Spencer. She hadn't expected Nathael to take it seriously. She stopped, hugged his waist, and softly asked, "What if you spoil me too much?"
Nathael hugged her back. "I just want you to think I'm the best," he said softly.
Maggie kissed his cheek, her cheeks flushing and heart racing. Nathael smiled, tousled her hair, and whispered, "I'll take you back."
They turned together. Maggie didn't return to the Camerons until Nathael's car had driven away.
Upon Maggie's return, Ronald's cheerful demeanor had vanished. Maggie slowed, hearing his anger echoing down the hallway.
"Where is Sierra? She's caused trouble and hasn't even appeared! Does she regard me as her father? I've been wise my whole life; how did I raise such a fool?" Olivia's complexion paled as she tried to console him. "Don't get agitated; she's still our daughter. Besides, haven't you mentioned someone targeting the Camerons? This necklace incident might be deliberate!"
Ronald smirked. "Even if someone plotted it, she fell for it! Can't she tell it's Luster Corporation jewelry? She's like a puppet!"
Master Cameron, displeased, remarked coldly, "We shouldn't have relied on her for family matters. She neglects her responsibilities; she only enjoys the Camerons' benefits without giving anything in return!"
Olivia felt embarrassed after receiving repeated scoldings. Maggie stepped forward softly. "Dad, perhaps Sierra is still too young, and she probably didn't do it on purpose."
Ronald's expression softened slightly at the sight of Maggie. "Maggie, maintain your relationship with Mr. Harris. The family's situation is unfavorable, and this is a rare chance."
Maggie's spirits dampened. "Mr. Harris learned about the jewelry incident and came to apologize, but as soon as he arrived, Aunt Mary" The thought darkened Ronald's expression. He wouldn't appreciate an ashtray thrown at him or being called a kept man, much less Nathael, a wealthy and noble prince.
"I know," Ronald sighed, considering her situation. "You've done well. Mr. Harris's visit proves your importance. Unfortunately, we've always feuded with the Adams, and Mr. Harris is friendly with them. Otherwise, marriage between you and Mr. Harris would have been advantageous."
Just then, Sierra, bombarded with calls from Olivia, returned with a grim expression.
Chapter 223: Think I'm the Best (Continued)
"You're finally back! I called so many times! You didn't come home after the competition. Where did you go? Why didn't you wear the jewelry? You wore the Adams' jewelry! Do you realize what people are saying?" Ronald's suppressed fury erupted upon seeing Sierra. He had endured his anger and forced a smile for Nathael; Sierra's behavior shattered his good mood.
Sierra became agitated. "Why single me out? Maggie didn't wear it either! Moneyโthat's all you care about! Am I just a tool for you to earn money?" Her eyes were bloodshot from online ridicule.
"This is ridiculous! Everything you eat and use costs money! Without money, why should others respect you? Maggie is dating Mr. Harris, and he benefits the family; what about you? What can you contribute? Do you think the Adams appreciate you wearing their jewelry? They're probably laughing at us! How can you be so foolish?"
