Chapter 166: Dislike
Nathael's face darkened. "You wouldn't dare," he said coldly.
Maggie snorted, tears welling as she stared at his image on the screen. Liar! She wouldn't forgive his lies about his injuries.
After a reassuring chat, Maggie's gloom lessened. Meanwhile, Lucas found himself embroiled in a Twitter feud with Andy. Neither man was known for his gentle demeanor; both were equally dramatic. While Lucas usually appeared aloof and quiet, Andy was brazen and behaved like a spoiled rich kid.
Maggie dismissed the matter after learning the Adam Group had signed Andy. Andy's barrage of unanswered messages fueled his fury. Then Lucas came online.
He saw a string of frantic messages. "How dare you speak to your daddy so rudely? Spamming me with so many messagesโyou must have a crush on me!!"
Andy, waiting to discuss design ideas, received this mocking message instead. Enraged, he nearly punched a hole in his computer. "Who's your daddy? You got it wrong, kiddo. I'm your granddaddy!"
Lucas, enraged, attacked Andy's firewall. Andy's screen went dark, replaced by the taunting words: "I'm your daddy; I'm your daddy; I'm your daddy."
The repetition drove Andy mad. "Motherf*cker! This woman is looking for trouble!"
Switching to his phone, he messaged: "If you've got balls, fight me! I won't leave until you lose all your teeth!" He immediately regretted it. He didn't hit women. But how could a woman be so provocative?
Chapter 166: Dislike (continued)
"If you get to the Adam Group, we'll face off in person. Don't you dare hide from me!"
This was another insult to Lucas. He'd been called a woman? That was it.
He immediately hacked Andy's account and tweeted: "A rich simpleton that whines! Come flirt with me!" He attached a photo from Andy's computer.
Still not satisfied, he tweeted again: "Shower me with love! Meow!"
Andy's DMs and comments exploded. He realized his account had been hacked. Seeing the posts, he nearly fainted. His carefully cultivated aloof image was ruined. This battle was far from over. It was war.
Impulsive Andy immediately retaliated on Twitter.
"Are you trying to acknowledge me as your granddad by hacking my account? Come here, grandchild! Grovel, and I might acknowledge you as my unworthy descendant!"
Lucas fired back: "What's the rush? Let me light a candle for you!"
Their Twitter battle raged through the night. Maggie slept through it all.
Two days later, at dusk, the Paragon Hotel in Aquapolis buzzed with anticipation. Maggie, a member of the hosting family, arrived early. Master Cameron, Ronald, and other Camerons were already there, their faces beaming with Luster Corporation's success.
"Maggie, you and Joseph will look after the guests," Ronald said warmly. "Even with Vanessa assisting Joseph, I still need you."
"Don't worry, Dad," Maggie replied, her blue dress complementing her smile. "Mom and Grandma arranged everything perfectly."
Ronald sighed. "I wonder if Harris will attend. The general merchandise isn't important, but we owe the Harris family a great deal for making our pearls so coveted."
These high-priced pearls were their most profitable product. International brands usually used celebrities, but for a new company like Luster, the Harris family's influence was invaluable.
"Did you send an invitation?" Maggie asked, sensing Ronald wanted her to contact Nathael.
"Yes, Joseph delivered it personally, but there's been no response."
Maggie said, "I mentioned this to Mr. Harris. He's abroad and his grandfather is ill. It's understandable if he doesn't attend."
Ronald agreed. "Their absence doesn't detract from their respect." But he was keenly aware of the Harris family's influence.
Harris had sent a representativeโa manager from a subsidiary companyโa gesture of respect. Nathael hadn't mentioned this, but his mother, unsure of her son's intentions, maintained appearances.
While greeting guests, Maggie ran into Joseph and Vanessa.
"Maggie, you look stunning," Vanessa said.
Maggie noted Vanessa's light green dress, modest jewelry, and low bun, accented with diamonds. "Why didn't you wear the jewelry you bought from Annie? I remember you liked some pieces."
Vanessa's smile faltered. Since his last encounter with Alex, Joseph had been subdued. "So, Mr. Harris isn't coming?" he asked Maggie.
Maggie grinned. "If you're so concerned, why not ask him yourself?"
Vanessa, unaware of the trio's incident, asked Joseph, "Mr. Harris? Maggie and Mr. Harris are together?"
"I wish," Maggie retorted sharply. "But someone's head is wrong, and he doesn't allow that."
Vanessa mistakenly thought Maggie was referring to Nathael. Joseph remained silent. Relieved, Vanessa believed Nathael would never be with someone like Maggie.
Feigning compassion, Vanessa said, "Maggie, a man like Mr. Harris has high standards. It's normal for him not to like you. There's no need for anger or slander. This will only bring trouble to our family."
