Chapter 788
When I finished, I turned to him. โI need to head back to the office. What about you?โ
Edward nodded. โNow?โ
When I heard him say that, I knew he had something else on his mind.
Edward got up, circled behind me, and started stirring things up. โCanโt you stay a little longer?โ
It wasnโt anything urgent, so I figured I could let it slide for now.
He pressed a kiss to the back of my neck, his breath hot against my skin, making my heart race and my chest tingle.
โVictoria, just stay with me a bit moreโฆโ Edwardโs voice was thick with desire.
Left with no choice, I shot off a quick text to the office. The moment Edward saw me give in, he swept me up into his arms, bridal style. I almost dropped my phone in shock, clinging to his neck for support.
With the curtains drawn tight, the bedroom was plunged into darkness. Edward came at me with a burning intensity, and I let all my defenses down, completely surrendering to him.
โVictoriaโฆ Victoria Murphyโฆโ
Edward had never called me by my full name before, but this time, as he bit my shoulder, he kept murmuring my name in a voice so raw and aching, it sounded almost desperate.
I moaned softly in response, and he clearly loved it โ only getting more possessive, making me cry out even louder for him.
After an incredible round, it was finally over. I didnโt waste a second, grabbing my clothes and heading for the shower, my legs so weak I could barely stand. It took a while before I finally got my strength back.
Edward went to the guest bathroom to shower and change.
Then we headed to the office together.
Another week slipped by, and just when I thought life with Edward was finally settling down, a call from Jeffrey Jennings made my blood run cold.
โMs. Murphy, can you come to Braylin?โ Jeffreyโs voice left no room for argument.
โIs there something you need, Mr. Jennings?โ I asked.
โYes. Itโs very important. Come within the next couple of days,โ he said, and hung up right after.
My heart was racing as I hurried to call Vivian, but she didnโt answer.
โNo way, did something really serious happen?โ I thought, my mind just froze for a long moment.
Should I tell Edward about Jeffrey asking me to go to Braylin?
Jeffrey hadnโt said anything about keeping it quiet, so itโs my call.
An hour later, Vivian called me back, and I picked up right away.
โIs there something you need, Ms. Murphy?โ Vivianโs voice was clear and gentle.
I could tell right away that something was off. She used to call me by my name, but now it was just โMs. Murphy.โ
I didnโt want to push my luck, so I asked politely, โVivian, Mr. Jennings just asked me to come to Braylin. Do you happen to know what itโs about?โ
Vivian sounded a little surprised. โHe asked you to come?โ
โYeah, can you give me any idea whatโs going on?โ My anxiety was through the roof.
But Vivian replied calmly, โIโm in Northport, not Braylin. I really donโt know why he wants to see you. Maybe itโs about Ryan refusing to eat โ he hasnโt shown up at work for three days now.โ
My head was spinning. Ryan really doesnโt hold back, not even with himself.
โMs. Murphy, you started this mess, so itโs on you to put out the fire. And donโt let Edward know where youโre going โ one Ryan is already enough of a headache. Edward might be mature and not the type to make a scene, but he really doesnโt need to get dragged into this,โ Vivian said, her tone serious.
I understood exactly what she was getting at. Iโd been about to tell Edward, but now it was clear Vivian didnโt want me to.
โAlright,โ I agreed. I didnโt want Edward finding out and then stirring things up with Jeffrey because of me.
To Jeffrey, Edward was his son and Ryan was his grandson โ both were equally important to him. So if anyone was going to take the fall, it would be me, the outsider.
I really went and pushed myself right to the edge, didnโt I?
