Chapter 779
โMaybe Iโm just used to doing things myself and never thought about it that way,โ I said with a smile.
Edward put his arm around my waist and gave it a gentle pat. โFrom now on, just focus on what you need to do. Let someone else handle the housework. You donโt have to do everything yourself.โ
โGot it!โ I said, catching on quickly.
In the master bedroom upstairs, there were several designer shopping bags.
Edward pointed at them. โGo check them out. Theyโre all this seasonโs latest.โ
I opened the bags and found an elegant handbag, three outfits, plus a brooch and a bracelet.
Obviously, these werenโt cheapโthe way the bracelet and brooch sparkled was absolutely eye-catching.
โDo you like them?โ Edward asked, a smile on his face.
โOf course,โ I couldnโt help but show how much I loved them. โTheyโre gorgeous.โ
โClose your eyes. Iโve got another gift for you,โ Edward said in a mysterious tone.
I immediately covered my eyes with my hands. He wrapped his arm around my waist and guided me to the sofa, where we sat down together.
โAlright, open your eyes and see,โ Edward said gently.
I opened my eyes and saw a blue necklace laid out in front of me.
The craftsmanship was exquisite. Inside the sapphire pendant was a delicately carved rose, and from every angle, the flower seemed to take on a different shapeโit was stunningly unique.
โThis must have been really hard to get,โ I said, my eyes growing misty as I looked up at him. โItโs not something you can just buy with money.โ
Edward nodded. โOf course. Something this unique isnโt easy to come by.โ
My breath hitched. I stood up and threw myself into his arms, hugging his waist tightly. โThank you. Thank you for doing so much for me.โ
Edward ran his fingers through my hair. โItโs something to remember me by. Whenever you see it, youโll think of me.โ
I paused for a second, then lifted my head from his arms and teased, โWait, is this what people do before breaking up?โ
Edward couldnโt help but laugh, then pretended to be annoyed as he kissed me. โWhat nonsense are you talking about? Who says you have to break up to give someone a keepsake?โ
I realized how silly I was being and snuggled back into his shoulder, whispering, โYouโve given me so much. Maybe I should do something for you too, but I donโt have anything special to give you right nowโฆโ
โWould you go along with one of my little quirks?โ Edward said, picking up a purple ribbon from the gift box. โI want to cover your eyesโฆโ
โโฆโ
โWould you mind? I just think itโd be a little more exciting,โ Edward said, his eyes full of hope.
I nodded. โAlright, Iโll let you have your way.โ
Maybe it was because I was being especially gentle and compliant today, but Edward was in an unusually good mood. We lost track of time, not even knowing how long weโd been at it, until suddenly his phone rang.
He answered, and in the next instant, his expression darkened. His tone turned cold. โRyan, youโre in Shaville too?โ
The shock made my whole body go limp, but then, as if jolted awake, I suddenly found my strength and turned to look at him.
Edward gently squeezed my arm in a comforting gesture, trying to reassure me.
โIs this what your grandpa wants? Alright, Iโll go with you to meet him tomorrow,โ he said.
โSheโs got something going on, so she canโt make it,โ he added.
โRyan, how could you just end your marriage out of the blue?โ he sounded really worried.
โDid the Chamberlain family have any issues with it?โ he continued.
As Edward talked on the phone, his eyes never left me. I couldnโt hear what Ryan was saying, but I could sense Edwardโs whole vibe turning cold.
After he hung up, Edward said, โRyanโs in town for some business. Do you want to meet him tomorrow?โ
