Chapter 741

Edwardโ€™s honesty left me speechless.

As soon as we left Braylin Airport, Edward took me straight to the Jennings family estate.

The closer we got to the Jennings family home, the more anxious I felt inside. My nerves were getting tighter with every mile.

It was as if fate itself was an invisible hand, shoving me toward a future I couldnโ€™t see.

I had no clue what was waiting for me on the other side.

The Jennings family estate was protected by layers of guard posts, each one heavily manned.

I thought only Jeffrey Jennings would be home, but I was in for a surprise.

As soon as we stepped into the living room, Fiona and Ryan were there, sipping coffee. It looked like theyโ€™d been summoned too, but neither of them expected that the person they were waiting for would be me.

Fionaโ€™s face fell the moment she saw me.

Ryanโ€™s grip on his coffee cup grew tighter with every second, his brooding, dark eyes fixed on me in utter disbelief.

Edward glanced at them coolly and asked, โ€œWhereโ€™s your grandfather?โ€

โ€œUpstairs,โ€ Ryan replied, his eyes locked on me. โ€œWhyโ€™d you bring her here?โ€

I met Ryanโ€™s gaze, my brow furrowing. โ€˜Ryanโ€™s look made it obvious he didnโ€™t want me here,โ€™ I thought.

Fiona, meanwhile, looked like she was about to enjoy a show. She flashed a fake smile and said, โ€œIsnโ€™t this Ms. Murphy? What brings you to the Jennings family estate? Ryan, donโ€™t tell me Grandpa wanted us to meet her? Is sheโ€ฆ really going to end up with Uncle Ryan?โ€

Ryanโ€™s eyes grew cold as he gave Fiona a frosty glare.

Fiona instantly shut up, sank back into the couch, and pressed her lips together, silent.

Upstairs, Jeffrey Jennings was slowly making his way down, step by step, with the help of a man who looked like the butler.

โ€œDad,โ€ Edward called out, moving forward.

โ€œGrandpa!โ€ Ryan called, right after.

Fiona quickly walked over to the stairs, and as soon as Jeffrey reached the bottom, she reached out to steady him. โ€œGrandpa, slow down.โ€

Jeffrey smiled, clearly pleased with Fionaโ€™s thoughtfulness. โ€œAlright, everyoneโ€™s here.โ€

Ryanโ€™s face went stone cold, his fists clenched tight. His voice was low and heavy as he asked, โ€œGrandpa, why did you call all of us here? What do you want to say?โ€

Jeffrey turned to me, clearly annoyed. โ€œDidnโ€™t I tell you to come by yourself? Why canโ€™t you follow instructions?โ€

My heart skipped a beat.

Edwardโ€™s face grew serious, his tone firm. โ€œDad, if you have something to say to Victoria, you can tell me. Youโ€™re going to scare her.โ€

โ€œIs she really that timid?โ€ Jeffrey snorted. โ€œI think sheโ€™s got enough guts to take on the whole world.โ€

I flinched, quickly stepping forward. โ€œMr. Jennings, I think you might have the wrong idea about me.โ€

Ryan immediately spoke up. โ€œGrandpa, she really is timid. Youโ€™ll scare her.โ€

I shot Ryan a quick lookโ€“didnโ€™t expect him to speak up for me.

Fiona looked like a thundercloud, shooting me a hateful glare.

I ignored her glare, just wanting to know what was really happening here.

Jeffrey Jenningsโ€™s face clouded over. โ€œMs. Murphy, how did you end up with Edward? Last time we had dinner, you were still with Ryan. Stringing both uncle and nephew alongโ€“does that give you some kind of satisfaction?โ€

I blanched, my voice trembling as I rushed to explain, โ€œNo, Iโ€ฆ thatโ€™s notโ€”โ€

โ€œDad, donโ€™t blame her. I was the one who went after her,โ€ Edward said, stepping forward and putting himself between me and Jeffrey, his tall frame completely blocking that sharp, commanding stare.

I finally managed to catch my breath.

โ€œSo youโ€™re the real shameless one,โ€ Jeffrey barked, his eyes blazing as he glared at Edward. โ€œOut of all the women in the world, you had to pick her? Why her, of all people?โ€
