Chapter 735

Vivian lived in a villa in Hachester. When I dropped her off that afternoon, she seemed to have heard about it already, a hint of worry creased her brow.

โ€œLet Edward handle it,โ€ Vivian said calmly.

โ€œVictoria, youโ€™ve been with me all afternoon. Are you tired? Come in for a cup of tea,โ€ she invited.

I quickly made up an excuse and declined, but my heart started pounding.

I had a feeling that the video being leaked online would bring some serious consequences.

Before it got dark, Edward came to find me. He wanted to take me out for dinner.

โ€œYour momโ€™s here. Why arenโ€™t you with her?โ€ I asked, curious as he showed up at my place.

โ€œShe likes her quiet time. She doesnโ€™t need me around,โ€ Edward replied.

โ€˜Maybe Vivian didnโ€™t want Edward hanging around her just so he could come see me instead,โ€™ I thought.

โ€˜That little hint made me feel like Vivian actually didnโ€™t mind me being with Edward at all.โ€™

โ€œAlright, I am actually a bit hungry. Letโ€™s find a place to eat,โ€ I said, settling into the car and leaning back to rest.

Edward couldnโ€™t wait to ask, โ€œDid Mariah say anything about us?โ€

โ€œNope,โ€ I replied. โ€œWe just talked about other things.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ Edward frowned. โ€œI thought sheโ€™d at least bring it up with you.โ€

I chuckled. โ€œWe barely know each other, itโ€™d be kind of weird to talk about that already.โ€

Edward shot me a helpless look. โ€œWeโ€™ve known each other for over half a year now. Thatโ€™s not exactly a short time, is it?โ€

โ€œWe were just acquaintances beforeโ€“and we even used to be at odds. Does that count?โ€ I teased him.

โ€œWait, at odds? I donโ€™t remember that at all,โ€ Edward replied with a laid-back smile.

โ€œWell, it was just me. You were always acting like you were above it all, barely even noticing me,โ€ I huffed, turning my face toward the window.

โ€œSorry about that. I probably didnโ€™t handle things well back then. Did I leave you with any scars from it?โ€ Edward took the chance to apologize.

โ€œForget it, I forgive you,โ€ I said, not really in the mood to argue.

I asked, a little anxious, โ€œDid you manage to get all those videos taken down?โ€

Edward nodded. โ€œYeah, some folks online thought you guys looked way too good, so they posted the video trying to figure out who you were.โ€

โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you ever mention your mom was this gorgeous?โ€ I gave him a teasing glare.

Edward laughed. โ€œYou never askedโ€“and you didnโ€™t even think to ask for a photo.โ€

โ€˜Well, guess Iโ€™ve learned something today. There really are people in their fifties who can look that amazing,โ€™ I thought, feeling a new sense of inspiration for my own future.

Edward looked a little wistful. โ€œMy momโ€™s beautiful and gentle, but people out there call her โ€˜the Ice Queenโ€™ or say sheโ€™s cold and emotionless.โ€

โ€œPeople who slap labels on others like that are the real jerks,โ€ I said, feeling indignant.

Edward looked surprised and paused for a second. โ€œHonestly, I thought youโ€™d say my mom is a bit distant or cold.โ€

โ€œEveryoneโ€™s got their own personality and way of living. Just because someone keeps to themselves doesnโ€™t mean people should slap labels on them. I just feel sorry for your mom,โ€ I said. Even though I hadnโ€™t spent much time with her, it was obvious she just minded her own business and never hurt anyone. Why should people talk about her like that?

I guess part of why I got so worked up was because someone once called me just eye candy too.

Women really have to learn to tear off the labels others try to slap on them. If you donโ€™t, those labels stick, and before you know it, thatโ€™s all people see when they talk about you. Itโ€™s just so unfair.
