Chapter 713

He looked like he hadnโ€™t slept a wink, his eyes bloodshot, but even that couldnโ€™t take away from his youthful good looks.

I recognized him, but I acted like I didnโ€™t. I spun around, heading straight for the elevator.

Suddenly, a strong arm clamped down on my wrist, holding me in a vice-like grip.

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ I snapped, yanking my hand free. โ€œRyan, donโ€™t cross the line.โ€

I turned away and stepped into the elevator, not bothering to look back.

But Ryan wasnโ€™t about to let me off that easy. He strode in after me, his long legs eating up the distance.

โ€œYouโ€™re a married man, Ryan. Chasing after me like thisโ€”do you want your career to go up in flames?โ€ I hissed, keeping my voice low as I warned him.

โ€˜If heโ€™s still living in a dream, someone really needs to snap him out of it,โ€™ I thought to myself.

โ€œItโ€™s been six months,โ€ he said, his voice a little hoarse. โ€œI just wanted to see you.โ€

His eyes werenโ€™t just bloodshot from lack of sleepโ€”they were red from holding back his anger.

โ€œWhatโ€™s there to see? Did you tell your wife you were coming to see me?โ€ I sneered, not giving him an inch.

โ€œVic, Iโ€ฆโ€ Maybe it was the force of my words, but Ryanโ€™s confidence wavered.

โ€œGo home,โ€ I said coldly.

My room was up on the top floor, all suites up hereโ€”pretty quiet, hardly anyone around.

I stepped out of the elevator, Ryan trailing right behind me. I was at my limit. โ€œWhat do you want?โ€ I snapped.

โ€œUncle Ryanโ€™s here too. Did you two plan this?โ€ Ryan sounded like he was about to break down.

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m here for work,โ€ I replied, scanning the hallway.

If anyone saw me talking to Ryan out here in the hotel corridor, thereโ€™d be no way to talk my way out of it.

โ€œAre you really going to be with him? Do you actually want to be my aunt-in-law?โ€ Ryan stepped closer, his emotions boiling over.

โ€œIf you keep pestering me like this, maybe this is the perfect way to make you give up,โ€ I warned him coldly.

โ€œI wonโ€™t accept it,โ€ Ryan snapped, his anger flaring up. โ€œI wonโ€™t allow it.โ€

โ€œDo you really think you get to decide who your elders marry?โ€ I scoffed.

โ€œAs long as I say no, Uncle Ryan canโ€™t marry you,โ€ Ryan said, his voice heavy and grim. โ€œUnless the Jennings family is ready for chaos.โ€

โ€œYou talk about love, but all I see is possessiveness and control,โ€ I shot back, meeting his bloodshot eyes with an icy retort. โ€œRyan, youโ€™re still just a kid. You treat me like some toy you canโ€™t let go of, but Iโ€™m not something you can just mess around with.โ€

Ryan looked like heโ€™d just been punched, stumbling back a couple steps and frantically shaking his head. โ€œNo, thatโ€™s not it, I swear. Iโ€™ve always been serious about youโ€ฆโ€

โ€œGive it a rest,โ€ I cut him off. โ€œYou already admitted you came to me just because you thought itโ€™d be fun. You know youโ€™ll go along with the family arrangement anyway. If this is all just a game to you, havenโ€™t you had enough? Messing around when youโ€™re already married? People will tear you apart for that.โ€ With that, I turned and headed for my room.

Ryan stood rooted to the spot, his breath coming in quick, ragged bursts.

I thought my words would be enough to finally bring him back to his senses.

But just as I swiped my card and tried to close the door behind me, a big hand slammed against it, stopping me.

The next moment, Ryan forced the door open and shoved his way inside.

โ€œAre you crazy?โ€ I snapped, absolutely furious as I shoved at him.

But Ryan was like a brick wallโ€”he wouldnโ€™t budge.

Suddenly, he tried to pull me into his arms.

I jerked away like heโ€™d been touched with demon claws, every muscle in my body going rigid as I fought him off. โ€œRyan, please, just calm down.โ€
