Chapter 713
He looked like he hadnโt slept a wink, his eyes bloodshot, but even that couldnโt take away from his youthful good looks.
I recognized him, but I acted like I didnโt. I spun around, heading straight for the elevator.
Suddenly, a strong arm clamped down on my wrist, holding me in a vice-like grip.
โYouโฆโ I snapped, yanking my hand free. โRyan, donโt cross the line.โ
I turned away and stepped into the elevator, not bothering to look back.
But Ryan wasnโt about to let me off that easy. He strode in after me, his long legs eating up the distance.
โYouโre a married man, Ryan. Chasing after me like thisโdo you want your career to go up in flames?โ I hissed, keeping my voice low as I warned him.
โIf heโs still living in a dream, someone really needs to snap him out of it,โ I thought to myself.
โItโs been six months,โ he said, his voice a little hoarse. โI just wanted to see you.โ
His eyes werenโt just bloodshot from lack of sleepโthey were red from holding back his anger.
โWhatโs there to see? Did you tell your wife you were coming to see me?โ I sneered, not giving him an inch.
โVic, Iโฆโ Maybe it was the force of my words, but Ryanโs confidence wavered.
โGo home,โ I said coldly.
My room was up on the top floor, all suites up hereโpretty quiet, hardly anyone around.
I stepped out of the elevator, Ryan trailing right behind me. I was at my limit. โWhat do you want?โ I snapped.
โUncle Ryanโs here too. Did you two plan this?โ Ryan sounded like he was about to break down.
โNo, Iโm here for work,โ I replied, scanning the hallway.
If anyone saw me talking to Ryan out here in the hotel corridor, thereโd be no way to talk my way out of it.
โAre you really going to be with him? Do you actually want to be my aunt-in-law?โ Ryan stepped closer, his emotions boiling over.
โIf you keep pestering me like this, maybe this is the perfect way to make you give up,โ I warned him coldly.
โI wonโt accept it,โ Ryan snapped, his anger flaring up. โI wonโt allow it.โ
โDo you really think you get to decide who your elders marry?โ I scoffed.
โAs long as I say no, Uncle Ryan canโt marry you,โ Ryan said, his voice heavy and grim. โUnless the Jennings family is ready for chaos.โ
โYou talk about love, but all I see is possessiveness and control,โ I shot back, meeting his bloodshot eyes with an icy retort. โRyan, youโre still just a kid. You treat me like some toy you canโt let go of, but Iโm not something you can just mess around with.โ
Ryan looked like heโd just been punched, stumbling back a couple steps and frantically shaking his head. โNo, thatโs not it, I swear. Iโve always been serious about youโฆโ
โGive it a rest,โ I cut him off. โYou already admitted you came to me just because you thought itโd be fun. You know youโll go along with the family arrangement anyway. If this is all just a game to you, havenโt you had enough? Messing around when youโre already married? People will tear you apart for that.โ With that, I turned and headed for my room.
Ryan stood rooted to the spot, his breath coming in quick, ragged bursts.
I thought my words would be enough to finally bring him back to his senses.
But just as I swiped my card and tried to close the door behind me, a big hand slammed against it, stopping me.
The next moment, Ryan forced the door open and shoved his way inside.
โAre you crazy?โ I snapped, absolutely furious as I shoved at him.
But Ryan was like a brick wallโhe wouldnโt budge.
Suddenly, he tried to pull me into his arms.
I jerked away like heโd been touched with demon claws, every muscle in my body going rigid as I fought him off. โRyan, please, just calm down.โ
