Chapter 710

Hearing that, I felt a wave of relief. Turns out, talking to Edward isnโ€™t as hard as I thought. It was nothing like with Jared in my previous life. Even if I asked him three questions, he wouldnโ€™t spare me a single glance. If I wanted him to explain why he was going out in the middle of the night, all Iโ€™d get was the sound of him slamming the door, or the roar of his engine as he sped off.

Compared to that, someone whoโ€™s willing to communicate with you is the one who might truly be right for you.

โ€œYou know, your cooking is really good. It actually makes me feel pretty happy,โ€ Edward said, giving me some genuine emotional support.

I smiled. โ€œI used to do this all the time at homeโ€“it was basically my main job back then.โ€

Edward nodded. โ€œBeing able to cook is one thing, but choosing to do it is another. I think youโ€™ve really found your place at work, too.โ€

I smiled. โ€œGuess Iโ€™ve been pretty luckyโ€“seems like Iโ€™ve run into a lot of people whoโ€™ve really had my back.โ€

โ€œSo, do I make the list?โ€ Edward cocked an eyebrow, a teasing smirk on his lips.

โ€œOf course you do,โ€ I answered with a grin.

After breakfast, I had to switch back into work mode. Edward drove me to the hotel, and I was planning to head upstairs and change into something else. As I got out of the car, Edward suddenly took hold of my wrist. โ€œCan we grab lunch together? Iโ€™ll pick the place.โ€

I replied in a neutral tone, โ€œNot sure yet. Our partners treated us yesterday, so itโ€™s our turn to treat them today.โ€

Edward knew all about the give-and-take of business meals. He gave a helpless little smile. โ€œAlright, just hit me up when youโ€™re not busy.โ€

โ€œOkay!โ€ I replied, then got out of the car.

As soon as I stepped into the hotel lobby, the elevator doors slid open, and out walked Jane Leigh and Joel Sinclair.

This was just too much of a coincidence. I couldnโ€™t help but feel a little irritated, like fate was messing with me on purpose. Iโ€™d already been looking toward the elevator, so when Jane Leigh stepped out, I finally got a clear look at her faceโ€“she had a really elegant look. She was just over five foot three, and with Joel Sinclair, the male model, towering at almost six foot three, even with her heels on, she barely came up to his shoulder.

Jane Leigh seemed to notice me too, but instead of looking at me, her gaze went right past and landed on the car behind me that was still parked there.

I took a deep breath and simply walked by.

Joel Sinclair waved and greeted me, โ€œMorning, Ms. Murphy.โ€

My expression stiffened for a moment, and Jane Leigh suddenly stopped in her tracks, turning to Joel. โ€œWant me to let you off for half a day?โ€

Joel had her figured out. He just shrugged, โ€œJust a friend, are you jealous?โ€

Jane Leigh glanced at me with a smile. โ€œSorry, Iโ€™m not picking on youโ€“just keeping my boyfriend in check.โ€

I flashed a quick smile and strode over to the elevator.

Once the doors slid shut, I let myself breathe for a second and tried to steady my nerves. She was just Edwardโ€™s ex-wife, not Sally. Honestly, if I ever did end up with Edward, what Iโ€™d really be worried about is what kind of mother-in-law Iโ€™d have to deal with.

I smacked my forehead. None of this even mattersโ€“Iโ€™m not even thinking about getting married again right now.

After changing into a new outfit, I got together with our partners and headed out to check the site. As for lunch, it was our turn to take care of it. I shot Edward a quick message, and he replied with a simple โ€œSounds good.โ€ Then he asked if I had any plans for the afternoonโ€“he wanted to take me out on the water for some fishing.

Honestly, I didnโ€™t have anything important lined up, so I said yes to the fishing trip.
