Chapter 695

I felt like I was just a pawn in some rich guyโ€™s game. I turned and shot Edward a mock-annoyed look, but he only pressed a finger to his lips, watching me with an amused, knowing smile.

Back upstairs, I made myself comfortable, and before long, one of the staff brought up my breakfast.

As I ate, I handled work emails and school assignments on my phone.

After wrapping everything up, I called my advisor to let them know Iโ€™d be taking the day off.

I zoned out on the balcony, soaking up the morning sun while taking in the stunning viewโ€”honestly, this is what living the good life feels like.

Even without a man in the picture, moments like this are more than enough to savor.

Footsteps echoed behind me, and when I turned, I saw Edward heading upstairs, having just finished his meeting.

โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you give me a heads-up you were in a meeting?โ€ I asked, irritation in my voice.

Edwardโ€™s gaze was dark and unreadable. โ€œWhy worry? Itโ€™s not like you have to hide from anyone.โ€

I blinked, at a loss for words.

Edward sat down next to me, closed his eyes, and let the sunlight wash over him. His tone was gentle. โ€œDonโ€™t overthink it. Itโ€™s just a small detourโ€”life is all about adventures and new experiences.โ€

Maybe heโ€™s right, I thought. Why am I holding onto this?

โ€œEdward, being with you, itโ€™s like all my worries just disappear. Is this the magic of having money?โ€ I teased, grinning at him.

Edward turned to look at me. โ€œDo you actually like living like this?โ€

โ€œOf course I do,โ€ I replied without a second thought.

โ€œMe too,โ€ Edward said, his eyes dark with emotion.

I shot him a doubtful look, but Edward just ignored it, closing his eyes and speaking in that calm voice of his. โ€œYou ever get so used to one place, and then suddenly you end up somewhere new? Everything feels strange, and you have to get used to it all over again. But if thereโ€™s someone familiar with you, it doesnโ€™t matter where you areโ€”the weirdness just melts away.โ€

I blinked in surprise, and out of nowhere, memories popped up of me moving from Hachester to Shaville, then to Braylin. Even though each place was my own, every time I switched cities, there was this empty feeling inside, like something was missing. All the stuff I was used to was gone, and I had to figure out a whole new routine.

So, turns out everyoneโ€™s got their habitsโ€”Edwardโ€™s no different.

Edward reached out, gently took my hand, and rested my fingers against his heart. โ€œIf you came with me, wherever I go, Iโ€™d always feel at ease, like I truly belongโ€”no matter where we are.โ€

โ€œEdward, if you keep teasing me like this, I might never want to let you go,โ€ I said, half-laughing. Honestly, he weaves his affection into the tiniest details of everyday life, and what really gets to a woman is feeling loved in those small, ordinary moments. That kind of tenderness seeps into your bones, becomes part of your soul, and you just canโ€™t shake it off.

Edward lifted his gaze to me, and in the sunlight, his eyes shimmered with a deep amber hueโ€”mesmerizing, with a touch of that old-school vampire charm.

โ€œYouโ€™ve always kept your heart locked away from me. What am I supposed to do?โ€ he said softly.

He saw right through me, and I felt a bit awkward. โ€œItโ€™s just a habit, protecting myself. Is that really so wrong?โ€

โ€œNot at all. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m not mad,โ€ Edward said, giving me a small, easy smile.

I leaned into his shoulder, my voice barely above a whisper. โ€œEdward, in seven days, Iโ€™m heading back home. Maybe we should just leave this memory here in the UK and go back to our own lives.โ€

Edward sat up straight, and the next second, he was on his feet.

I flinched at his sudden movement, and after he left, I was left sitting by myself on the long couch, suddenly feeling out of place.

He looked down at me, his eyes flashing with a mix of shock and anger. โ€œWhat did you just say?โ€

I bit my lip, then said honestly, โ€œLetโ€™s just go back to our own lives.โ€
