I felt like I was just a pawn in some rich guyโs game. I turned and shot Edward a mock-annoyed look, but he only pressed a finger to his lips, watching me with an amused, knowing smile.
Back upstairs, I made myself comfortable, and before long, one of the staff brought up my breakfast.
As I ate, I handled work emails and school assignments on my phone.
After wrapping everything up, I called my advisor to let them know Iโd be taking the day off.
I zoned out on the balcony, soaking up the morning sun while taking in the stunning viewโhonestly, this is what living the good life feels like.
Even without a man in the picture, moments like this are more than enough to savor.
Footsteps echoed behind me, and when I turned, I saw Edward heading upstairs, having just finished his meeting.
โWhy didnโt you give me a heads-up you were in a meeting?โ I asked, irritation in my voice.
Edwardโs gaze was dark and unreadable. โWhy worry? Itโs not like you have to hide from anyone.โ
I blinked, at a loss for words.
Edward sat down next to me, closed his eyes, and let the sunlight wash over him. His tone was gentle. โDonโt overthink it. Itโs just a small detourโlife is all about adventures and new experiences.โ
Maybe heโs right, I thought. Why am I holding onto this?
โEdward, being with you, itโs like all my worries just disappear. Is this the magic of having money?โ I teased, grinning at him.
Edward turned to look at me. โDo you actually like living like this?โ
โOf course I do,โ I replied without a second thought.
โMe too,โ Edward said, his eyes dark with emotion.
I shot him a doubtful look, but Edward just ignored it, closing his eyes and speaking in that calm voice of his. โYou ever get so used to one place, and then suddenly you end up somewhere new? Everything feels strange, and you have to get used to it all over again. But if thereโs someone familiar with you, it doesnโt matter where you areโthe weirdness just melts away.โ
I blinked in surprise, and out of nowhere, memories popped up of me moving from Hachester to Shaville, then to Braylin. Even though each place was my own, every time I switched cities, there was this empty feeling inside, like something was missing. All the stuff I was used to was gone, and I had to figure out a whole new routine.
So, turns out everyoneโs got their habitsโEdwardโs no different.

Edward reached out, gently took my hand, and rested my fingers against his heart. โIf you came with me, wherever I go, Iโd always feel at ease, like I truly belongโno matter where we are.โ
โEdward, if you keep teasing me like this, I might never want to let you go,โ I said, half-laughing. Honestly, he weaves his affection into the tiniest details of everyday life, and what really gets to a woman is feeling loved in those small, ordinary moments. That kind of tenderness seeps into your bones, becomes part of your soul, and you just canโt shake it off.
Edward lifted his gaze to me, and in the sunlight, his eyes shimmered with a deep amber hueโmesmerizing, with a touch of that old-school vampire charm.
โYouโve always kept your heart locked away from me. What am I supposed to do?โ he said softly.
He saw right through me, and I felt a bit awkward. โItโs just a habit, protecting myself. Is that really so wrong?โ
โNot at all. Thatโs why Iโm not mad,โ Edward said, giving me a small, easy smile.
I leaned into his shoulder, my voice barely above a whisper. โEdward, in seven days, Iโm heading back home. Maybe we should just leave this memory here in the UK and go back to our own lives.โ
Edward sat up straight, and the next second, he was on his feet.
I flinched at his sudden movement, and after he left, I was left sitting by myself on the long couch, suddenly feeling out of place.
He looked down at me, his eyes flashing with a mix of shock and anger. โWhat did you just say?โ
I bit my lip, then said honestly, โLetโs just go back to our own lives.โ
