Chapter 659
I couldnโt help but think Edward had a real knack for winning women over. He always seemed to know exactly what I wanted and would make it appear, just when I needed it, without saying a word.
Jared, on the other hand, was generous with money but had no idea what I liked. He didnโt even know what kind of makeup I used every day. To him, just wearing lipstick meant I was all dolled up.
Itโs only when you compare that you feel let down.
I suddenly realized with a joltโโCrap, Iโm actually comparing my ex-husband to Edward, noticing all the ways Edward is better, bit by bit,โ I thought.
I pressed my hand to my chest, my heart pounding like crazy.
โCrap, Iโm actually catching feelings,โ I thought to myself.
After I finished breakfast, Edward showed up, bringing the meds I needed.
โI just had a cross-border meeting that went on for over two hours,โ he explained as he walked in.
I knew he was always busy, with a million things to handle every day.
โOh, itโs fine. Go ahead, take care of your stuff,โ I said. Iโd already eaten, done my makeup, and slipped into the gorgeous outfit he picked out for meโthe colors of the top and jacket went together beautifully.
Edward gave me a once-over and smiled. โSo, do you like what youโre wearing?โ
โI like it. Bet it wasnโt cheap,โ I replied.
He looked at me with a playful glint in his eye. โItโs a custom piece from one of my womenโs brands. They donโt sell it to the public. If you like this look, Iโll have them make you custom pieces for spring, summer, fall, and winter.โ
I couldnโt believe the kind of treatment I was getting.
โSo these cosmeticsโare they from your own brands too?โ I asked, genuinely surprised.
Edward grinned, โYeah, Iโve got a stake in all of them.โ
I just went, โOh,โ thinking to myself, โLooks like Iโll never have to worry about running out of anything with Edward around.โ
โThese are your meds for this morning,โ Edward said gently, opening his palm to reveal a small pouch with my medicine inside.
โAlright!โ I answered. The fever was gone nowโafter the shot and the pills, I really did feel a lot better.
I picked up a glass of water, turned my back to him, and swallowed the pills.
Edward teased, โHonestly, I thought youโd want me to get you some candy to help swallow it. Didnโt think youโd just take it straight.โ
I froze for a second, thinking, โWait, could I actually ask him for candy?โ
โIโm not a little kid,โ I said.
Edward just gave me that soft, doting look. โIf you ever feel like being a kid, go for it. Being a grown-up is overrated anyway.โ
โBut you need someone to dote on you for that,โ I said quietly. โKids without anyone to shelter them just have to tough it out in the rain.โ
Edward didnโt say a word, just kept watching me with that gentle, lingering smile.
Suddenly, it hit meโwhat Iโd said sounded like a hint.
My cheeks went red in an instant, and I quickly looked away from his burning gaze.
Noticing my reaction, Edward let out a soft chuckle. โHow about I take you out for a bit? You shouldnโt just stay cooped up inside.โ
โWhere to?โ I asked.
โIโve got a private jet. If weโve got the time, we can go anywhere you want,โ Edward said, not braggingโjust matter-of-fact.
I was floored. A private jet? That was next-level luxuryโIโd never even met anyone who owned one.
โNah, I only get one day off, and Iโm still feeling a little woozy,โ I said. As tempting as his offer was, I just couldnโt say yes.
โAlright, then letโs just walk around nearby. Oh, and thereโs a royal tennis match this afternoonโwant to go check it out?โ Edward said suddenly.
I was stunned. Iโd always heard that royal tennis matches in the United Kingdom were strictly for the upper crustโnormal people couldnโt even get in, and you had to follow some super fancy dress code.
โWait, can I actually go?โ I asked.
Edward nodded. โIโll take you.โ
