Chapter 643
Looking around, I realized this was actually a tech conference.
โAre you free tonight?โ Nathan asked in a low voice, worried he was being too abrupt with the sudden invitation.
โYeah, I am,โ I answered without thinking. โItโs always good to get out and experience more.โ
Nathan couldnโt hide his happiness, a smile spreading across his face and his eyes lighting up.
After we finished eating, Nathan gave me a ride back to campus. Though my schedule wasnโt packed, I had to sign in for every class to earn my certificate, so I made sure to really focus during lectures.
At 5:30 PM, after class ended, I made my way out of campus with a few other students, talking and laughing together.
Just as we reached the front gate, I saw Nathan waiting under a tree. I waved goodbye to the others and headed over to him.
His eyes crinkled with a smile when he saw me clutching my books. โLook at you, totally rocking the college student vibe.โ
I blinked, then shot him a mock glare. โSince when are college students twenty-seven?โ
Nathan just looked at me, his gaze steady. โYour face is way too good at fooling people.โ
โIโll take that as a compliment,โ I said, grinning.
Nathan helped me into the car, then told the driver in Englysian where to go.
I caught the name of our destinationโa custom boutique.
I turned to look at him.
Nathan shrugged. โOh, right, I forgot your Englysian has improved.โ
โWhy are we going there?โ I asked.
โObviously, weโre getting some formal outfits for the event,โ Nathan replied.
I raised an eyebrow. โIsnโt that gonna be expensive?โ
Custom stuff is never cheap.
Nathan just shrugged. โMoneyโs the least of my worries. What really concerns me is you might bail on me.โ
I bit my lip, trying not to laugh. โAlright, boss, take me with you.โ
When we arrived at the couture boutique, Nathan chatted with the salesperson for a bit, and soon enough, a form-fitting beige gown with sparkling crystals was brought out for me. The salesperson invited me to try it on.
I stared at the dazzling dress, then glanced back at Nathan. โYou didnโt have this all planned out already, did you?โ
Nathan looked a little embarrassed, his cheeks tinged pink. โYeah, I set it up ahead of time. Just try it on and see if you like it.โ
I smiled softly. โOf course I do, itโs gorgeous.โ
I stepped into the fitting room and slipped on the dress. It hugged my figure perfectly, with a sliver of pale skin showing at the back, while the neckline in front was totally coveredโnot even a hint of cleavage.
I almost laughed. Honestly, my front is what Iโm most confident about, but Nathan had picked a dress that kept things understated, leaving everything to the imagination and only showing a little bit of my back.
Guys think theyโre being clever, but women always see right through them.
But either way, Nathan had planned everything out, and the dress fit me like a glove.
While a stylist worked on my makeup and overall look, Nathan slipped into his custom-tailored suit and sat waiting for me on a nearby couch.
We looked just like a couple about to get married, and this scene pulled me back to an old memory.
When I married Jared, it was also in a high-end bridal boutique. He sat on the couch in a black suit, reading a magazine, occasionally glancing at me as I had my makeup done. Our eyes would meet in the mirror.
Back then, I was shy, sweet, and full of hope for the future.
But now, I just felt calmโthose dreams were long gone.
Nathan was gazing at me, completely spaced out.
The stylist finished pinning up my hair, and I blinked in surprise as she opened a sleek square box, taking out a pair of earrings and a braceletโshe gently fastened the earrings on my ears, then slipped the bracelet onto my wrist.
When it came to the necklace, she smiled and said, โItโll feel more special if your man puts it on for you.โ
I turned to Nathan, realizing heโd actually gone all out and prepared an entire jewelry set just for me. Nathan stood up and walked over, smiling at me. โLet me help you with that.โ
