Chapter 993

Ralph chuckled, seeming proud. "You underestimated my family, Ms. Riggs. The house is unremarkable except for its size, but the country's top security firm handles our systems. We have cameras, infrared, and other mechanisms everywhere. You're perfectly safe."

He paused, then added, "If you don't like living here, we can move. We can buy a house you prefer, just the two of us. What do you think?" He slid his hand from her shoulder, down her collarbone. Heather intercepted his touch with a smirk.

"Is that so?" she said, cutting off his boast. "Then how come I heard about last night's theft?"

Ralph froze. His family had swiftly covered the incident; the public remained unaware. Only a few Russells knew, and servants were sworn to silence. He wondered how Heather learned. He laughed dryly. "You're very well-informed! It was just a few petty thieves, hardly worth mentioning. I didn't tell you. Judging by your question, you seem concerned about my family, Heather."

He was testing her, unsure of her meaning. He wondered if she was angry, considering breaking the engagement, or simply expressing dissatisfaction.

Heather raised an eyebrow and stepped back. "Oh? Petty thieves? A few petty thieves infiltrated your top-level security system? Either these thieves are exceptionally skilled, or your security system isn't as good as you claimed."

Ralph was stunned. "Haha. You're right. I also think the system is inadequate. I've contacted the company to terminate the contract and demand compensation. I'll find better security. Or, do you have any suggestions?"

Heather had been waiting for this. She turned, looking directly at him. "Our lives necessitate constant vigilance. My family is in kickboxing; I can offer better advice. Perhaps consider the Riggs family's security measures and replace your guards with ours?"

"That's..." Ralph, while eager to please, wasn't foolish. They weren't married yet; even then, Heather was an outsider. Things would be different if he controlled the Riggs family, but he didn't. Handing over Russell security to the Riggs would be reckless. Their relationship hadn't reached that point.

Heather turned, her voice cold. "Just pretend I said nothing if you don't believe me."

Ralph saw her anger and quickly reassured her. "No, how could I not believe you? I may not trust others, but I trust you completely! However, I can't decide this alone. My nephew heads the Russell family. I want to use your family's security, but we need to discuss this further."
