Chapter 979

Alexander was speechless at Ralph's vehement warning. "I know Heather is attractive and from a prestigious family, but she's my future wife, so don't even think about it!" Ralph declared, restless and worried about Alexander's interest in Heather. He knew he wouldn't stand a chance against him. Alexander laughed, tapping Ralph's shoulder. "Uncle, you're overthinking. She's not my type!" he said casually. "But I advise you to be wary of her. She's a wolf in sheep's clothing."

He left Ralph, drove off, leaving him momentarily stunned. Ralph pondered his own words, deciding Alexander was just trying to intimidate him. 'How could Heather be a wolf? He must be joking. Has he even seen such a pretty wolf?' he mused.

Heather was far above Ralph's station. She knew of his Russell family lineage, but his lack of power; why would she marry him? If anyone had an agenda, it was him, not her. What could she gain? Ralph concluded Alexander was simply jealous. He must have felt a pang of regret seeing Heather. Alexander's wife was beautiful, but that was it. She had some talent for perfume making, but her family, the declining Lodges, offered little influence. She wasn't even a direct descendant, lacking real power within the family. Heather, however, headed the Riggs family and possessed ancestral martial arts skills. Compared to Alexander's wife, Heather was far superior.

This bolstered Ralph. He felt he had one-upped Alexander, confirming his jealousy and intimidation tactics. Alexander was despicable! Ralph turned and headed back inside, determined to prepare a room for Heather and expedite their relationship to avoid any change of heart.

Heather breathed a sigh of relief leaving the Russell home, the atmosphere unsettling. She hadn't expected such a pathetic state. No one seemed worthy of her except that man. His photograph hinted at something more, his gaze piercing through her facade. In person, his presence was even stronger, a stark contrast to Ralph's uselessness. She'd tested him; he possessed a firm resolve, unmoved by her physical attractiveness. He was unlike anyone she'd met.

She'd proposed this marriage to obtain a secret martial arts skill book hidden within the house. Even the Light-Shadow Killers had failed. This was her last resort.
