Chapter 932

"It's true. The doctor already examined you. It's been almost two months; didn't you know?"

The doctor explained that first-time mothers might not be very sensitive to pregnancy symptoms. They often lack knowledge and experience, making it normal to not notice early signs. Some women don't discover their pregnancy for several months. However, symptoms eventually become quite evident; the absence of menstruation is usually the most obvious indicator.

Thinking about it, Lily realized her period had been absent for nearly two months. Previous menstrual irregularities and a heavy workload had caused her to overlook it.

"I thought it was just work stress," she said, "but I didn't expect..."

"You're a bit scatterbrained!" he chuckled, poking her nose. He resisted the urge to playfully smack her bottom, considering her condition. She hadn't known she was pregnant and had even refused hospital care when she fell ill, handling her issues with Margaret and Celine independently. Did she think she was Superwoman? The doctor's temperature readingโ€”almost 101 degreesโ€”shocked even her, yet she'd persevered. Now that she knew she was pregnant, medication choices needed careful consideration.

"By the way," he said, remembering the doctor's question, "what medicine did you take at home? I'm not sure."

"It was for a feverโ€”a very common one," Lily replied.

"Which common one? What's the name? The doctor needs to know if it could have any effect." He deliberately remained vague.

Lily, however, focused on specific words. "What effect? Will there be side effects?" she asked, rightly guessing the reason for the IV instead of oral medication. "Some medicines have side effects, so I need to check to ensure you're prescribed the right medication," he explained, though he didn't want her to worry too much. He didn't want her to overthink. Having learned from their previous pregnancy loss, he knew she would be a loving mother. But another loss, this time due to medication, would be devastating.

"I don't remember exactly," she said.

The doctor entered the room. "Ah, you're awake," he said, noticing them conversing.

"Doctor," Lily asked seriously, "if the medicine I took is unsafe for pregnant women, will it affect the baby? Could I miscarry?" Alexander remained silent, realizing his earlier attempts at concealment were foolish.

"What medicine did you take?" the doctor asked.

Lily considered, then named the drug. "I didn't check if it was prohibited during pregnancy. I've heard there's a difference between 'prohibited' and 'use with caution.' Does that mean it won't necessarily harm the baby?"

The doctor waved his hand. "This medicine is fine; it just temporarily reduces fever. You're weak and have some inflammation, hence the high temperature. Let's address that first."

"That's good!" she breathed a sigh of relief, noticing Alexander's own relief.
