Chapter 908
Joseph refused to accept the documents, flinging them to the ground with a flick. "I won't sign it! I won't sign it!"
"It's your choice," Eloise replied. "If you don't sign, I'll sue. Let's separate. I won't stay with you any longer. I'm tired, Joseph, genuinely tired."
"Tired? Eloise, we've been together for years! Now that I'm like this, you're going to divorce me?!" Joseph growled, unconsciously patting his leg.
"Joseph, that's not the reason. Many envy my marriage into wealth. We both know what you've given me, and what I've contributed to the family."
"Still, you've paraded your mistress and illegitimate child around for years, bringing them into our home. Have you ever considered how I felt? Have you ever considered divorce?"
This question stunned Joseph. He had considered it, each moment with Elizabeth fueling the thought. Divorce wasn't easy, though. Initially, he'd thought he could manage both women. He enjoyed having them both, but Eloise's filing for divorce was unexpected.
"I'm not signing," Joseph declared, noticing Derrick. "Derrick, persuade her! This woman's lost her mind!"
Derrick's eyes darted between them. "El..."
"Derrick, please don't," Eloise said earnestly.
"If you think this is right, go for it," Derrick responded.
Joseph's eyes widened. "Derrick, what are you saying? Why are you encouraging her to divorce me?!"
"Joseph," Derrick said, "you haven't considered your actions. Have you been a good husband and father?"
"I don't want to hear it! Are you all trying to kill me?! I'll jump off this building!" Joseph yelled maniacally.
Eloise didn't flinch. "Yes! You deserve to die! Go ahead, Joseph Tanner. Whose fault is this? Are you jumping because of guilt towards me, or towards Arianna? No! It's for your sonโthe son you desperately wanted! It has nothing to do with Ari or me. I'm tired of this entanglement. Let me go." She picked up the papers. "Until today, there's been resentment. After you sign, we're done. You have your son, I have my daughter."
Joseph didn't resist, letting her place the papers on his chest.
"Derrick!" Eloise turned.
Derrick raised an eyebrow, silent.
"I'm sorry for the past few years," Eloise sighed, miserable. "I was selfish, I plotted against you. This is my retribution. You might not want anything to do with me, but you and Stephanie will always be family."
