Chapter 825
Joseph and Damian remained silent as they left the hospital. When Damian got into the car, he began, "Dad"
"Perhaps what you said is right," Joseph replied gravely. He had been reflecting on recent events with mixed feelings. He couldn't deny that Stephanie's revelation had deeply disturbed him. He never imagined Arianna would come and request his brother's company seal.
"Why would she need the seal? She said she wanted to run the business on Derrick's behalf," Joseph mused. "In other words, she wants to take over the company. She promised to care for her brother and help him run the business. However, she's acting differently. I can't believe the daughter I raised, the one I thought was obedient, would do such a thing. What else might she have done?"
Damian, surprised by his father's response, saw his disappointment. "Dad, I was right, wasn't I? It's not that I'm prejudiced against her, but the opposite! Look, if she could ask for Uncle Derrick's seal behind your back, she could" He trailed off, seeing his father's upset face. Some things didn't need to be said.
Joseph drove in silence, his expression hauntingly gloomy. He later dropped Damian off at the underground garage. "Get home and leave this to me. I'll let you know when I have a plan, okay?"
"All right, Dad."
Damian felt an unusual sense of relief. Although the problem wasn't solved, he knew his father wouldn't let Arianna off the hook if she was involved. She would likely be held responsible, allowing Joseph to resolve the incident without implicating his son. Furthermore, with Arianna out of the way, Damian would have no competition for the company. Without Arianna, he would be the sole heir of the Tanner family now that Benedict had died. Who else could Derrick have chosen but him? The thought pleased him. He hadn't expected such a simple hospital visit to resolve his problems.
Humming a tune, Damian watched his father drive away, unaware of a shadowy figure observing him in the darkness. As he turned toward the elevator, the figure lunged. A towel, pungent with an unknown smell, was clamped over his nose and mouth. Damian struggled briefly before falling still. The assailant then dragged him into a waiting car, which sped off.
Joseph, enraged and shocked, was furious that his own daughter had manipulated him.
