Chapter 80
"Thank you," she said politely. Lily was confident she had done her job well and saw no need for modesty.
Jenny smiled at Lily's confident expression. Leaning against the lockers, she turned to face her. "Honestly, I thought you were the one who plagiarized MN Inc.'s work."
Lily raised an eyebrow, unsure how to respond. From their first meeting, she'd known of Jenny's distrust and disdain. Jenny's disapproval was palpable; it was as if "You're a plagiarizing thief!" was tattooed on her forehead.
Lily didn't bother explaining. Words were futile when assumptions about her character were already entrenched. She could only prove herself through her capabilities and let time dispel the rumors.
Jenny noticed Lily's silence and continued, "After all, Melanie Thayer was quite well-known in our industry. A dark horse who won numerous awards. Besides, MN Inc. is considered one of the stronger companies, thanks to Melanie's award-winning products. Telling me to trust a nobody like you seemed far-fetched."
Jenny laughed lightly, this time sincerely, her laughter devoid of mockery, expressing only relief. "That's it? So, why should I trust you now? What if I was the one who plagiarized Melanie's work?" Lily tilted her head.
Jenny laughed loudly. "If you're the actual thief, all I can say is 'what a shame!' You have so much ability and talent. Why plagiarize when you're already so good? Besides, I believe you'd never do something like that." Jenny's reassurance and unwavering gaze warmed Lily. "Thank you," Lily said, this time sincerely. Their relationship, initially hostile, had shifted significantly. Jenny's newfound trust and sincerity touched her.
Jenny patted Lily's shoulder. "I heard your chances of winning this lawsuit are low, but judging from that phone call, I'm sure you'll pull through. Don't be afraid. Untruth never wins."
"Yeah," Lily nodded, retrieving her handbag and cell phone from her locker.
"Still, don't drag this case out. These rumors have already affected your reputation, so you must win! And you need to end this to join my team."
Lily smiled. "Of course!" "Let's go! I need a rest after finishing this project." Jenny put her arm around Lily's shoulder, and they exited the building. "Do you usually take a cab to work? Isn't that annoying? Why don't I give you a ride home?" Lily shook her head. "It's all right." "Why are you being shy now? Is this because of our past feud?" Jenny asked.
"Not at all. You're the manager, responsible for the team, and I understand you have to be strict," Lily clarified.
"Then what's the problem? Does my car creep you out, or do you actually prefer a cab?" Jenny asked curiously.
Lily laughed at Jenny's silliness. "No, someone's picking me up. Thank you for the offer, though." "Ah, a boyfriend, huh?" Jenny smirked playfully.
