Chapter 785
It was as if the stars had aligned, reuniting Eloise and Naomi. This fortuitous meeting stemmed from Damian's decision to hire famous models to endorse his product. While strategically sound, his plan disregarded the budget. If it were so simple, why was he needed at all? Anyone else in the company could have done the same.
Budgetary constraints existed, yet Damian also aimed for international expansion. Consequently, all costs were slashed, including endorsement fees. However, he insisted that networking was paramount, believing his "friends" were valuable connectionsโa belief quickly reinforced by a cursory resume check. Despite the below-market endorsement fee, he remained unsuspecting, unaware of Naomi's friendship with Eloise.
Seeing Naomi's distress, Eloise asked, "How will your allergic reaction help?"
"It will," Eloise replied, taking Naomi's hands. "Remember our discussion? The hospital report comes out tomorrow; the allergen will be the perfume."
Naomi voiced a concern: "Won't I need reporters to take pictures?" The dramatic effect of her crying on camera would be beneficial. Although unfamiliar with the battles of the wealthy, Naomi had heard tales of their ruthlessness, even toward family. While Damian oversaw the project, it belonged to Tanner Corporation. Therefore, the fallout would affect not only Damian but the entire company, with immeasurable consequences. However, Naomi was committed to Eloise's plan, having already received payment.
"No need," Eloise said with a faint smile. "You rejected his invitation; reporters will swarm you tomorrow anyway, but the pictures won't be flattering." Naomi's rash-covered face, while distressing, was advantageous; it would evoke sympathy, angering her fans. Public opinion would be their most potent weapon. Once they controlled it, they could relax.
Leaving the hospital, Eloise entered a waiting black car. The vehicle departed immediately.
"Done?" Nathaniel asked from the passenger seat, a look of completion on his face.
"How did you know about my relationship with Naomi?" Eloise sighed, leaning back in fatigue.
"Mom, you were a movie star; you're well-connected in the entertainment industry. I wasn't sure if you knew Naomi Schiffer, but I knew you had the means to find out, even if you didn't." He shrugged. "To get close to someone in this industry, who better than you?"
"Enough," Eloise said. "I never knew you were so witty."
