Chapter 757
Lily felt foolish realizing her husband had known about her pregnancy but remained silent until she revealed it herself. Upset, she looked away.
Alexander gently held her shoulders, turned her to face him, and said earnestly, his smile gone, "I found out yesterday, but I thought that since you hadn't told me, you hadn't decided anything. I'd rather hear it from you than ask."
Lily remained silent, slowly meeting his gaze.
"The fact that you didn't tell me immediately suggests you've been struggling with the decision or have mixed feelings. Whatever the reason, I'm glad you told me so soon."
He truly loved and respected Lily beyond measure.
Hearing this, Lily felt her upset dissipate. She realized she should have told him immediately and that deciding together was best.
"So, what do you want to do?" Alexander asked, shaking his head. "I should be asking you. I can tell you've been struggling. Do you not want the child?"
"I don't know," Lily replied. "It just feels like bad timing, or maybe I'm not prepared."
Lily placed her hand on her stomach. For the first time, she felt the enormity of parenthood. Having lost her parents young, she lacked guidance. She'd dreamed of children, but dreaming and reality were vastly different. "If you're unprepared and don't want it, we should get it aborted soon. We'll go to the hospital together," she said.
Alexander emphasized each word, his voice unwavering. "You don't want it either?"
Lily was stunned by his casual tone.
"No! I want it," he answered without hesitation. "As I told you, I look forward to our children, but this child is yours too. So, if you're not ready or don't want it, you shouldn't have it. Nothing matters more than you."
"Let me think it through," Lily said.
His unwavering support made her decision even harder. Seeing his thoughtfulness and love, Lily felt selfish. She got up, found paper and a pen, sat back down, folded the paper in half, and began to write: "Inconvenience at work; recent order pending completion; slows down career growth; bad timing; potential risksโฆ"
Alexander looked over. "What are you doing?"
"Writing down the pros and cons to help me decide," Lily replied. It was, indeed, an interesting method.
Alexander watched silently as she wrote. Soon, a long list of cons filled the page.
Lily flipped the paper over, ready to list the pros, but hesitated. She seemed to be grappling with a complex problem.
"So you've decided not to have the child?" Alexander asked.
"Can't she think of even one reason to keep the baby?" he muttered to himself.
"No," Lily said, shaking her head and looking up at him. "I've made up my mind. I want the child!"
Alexander was surprised. He pointed to the paper. "Wait, you couldn't think of even one pro. Are you sure?"
"Well, there's one reason."
Lily wrote one final word in large letters: LOVE.
