Chapter 743
Rose was stunned by her boss's meaningful smile. Was it significant, or simply a friendly gesture? She also wondered about Lily's plans. What could they be? Rose arrived at the HR department with her resignation letter and many unanswered questions.
"Mr. Russell approved it?" the HR employees asked, surprised.
"It seems Mr. Russell knew about this; they must have discussed it," someone replied. "Still, things were looking up for Lily. The company planned to make her chief perfumer. Why quit now? What for?"
"What's so great about being chief perfumer? Didn't you guys forget she's the future wife of our CEO?" someone interjected.
"Oh, yeah! So Lily quit to marry him?" another chimed in.
It was a slow day, and the gossip involved their boss, so everyone joined in. One employee raised her hand. "I heard a rumor: Mr. Russell and Ms. Christian secretly obtained a marriage certificate. The wedding ceremony is just a formality. She might be pregnant and wants to rest."
"Really? This is juicy!"
Rose, a trained secretary, knew gossiping about her boss was inappropriate. However, she couldn't help but listen.
"I don't know if it's true, but it's plausible. Imagine the comfortable life as the boss's wife. Why work hard? Ever since Ms. Christian joined Rebirth, there's been controversy after controversy. With the Perfumers' Society investigating her, quitting might be easier."
Most nodded in agreement. "You're right! I'd resign too."
"Keep dreaming! We weren't born to be CEOs' wives."
Someone nudged Rose, noticing her daze. "Rose, don't tell Mr. Russell what we said, okay?"
Rose smiled, collecting herself. "If you're so worried, chat less and work more. We weren't born to be CEOs' wives, right?"
She left, unaware of how quickly workplace gossip spreads. The rumor that Lily quit because she was pregnant spread throughout the company in under 24 hours.
Lily, waiting for an update on her resignation while having tea with Jenny, heard the rumor. "What?"
Her resignation should have been simple: her supervisor's approval, followed by Mr. Will's at Rebirth (as she was a new employee). However, because of who she was, it went to higher-ups, delaying her for half a day.
"Where did that rumor start?" Lily, having finally received approval, was about to sip her tea when she heard the gossip. Jenny looked meaningfully at Lily's stomach.
"Are you really?"
