“Noah Richards, huh? I want that man!” A satisfied smile finally touched the woman’s lips as she surveyed the piles of bags in the room.

Joseph leaned forward, hugged her from behind, and kissed her cheek. “Are you happy now?”

“Hmph!” She rolled her eyes. “It only managed to calm me down.”

“Oh dear,” Joseph said, “the million dollars I used should be enough to do just that. I apologize, but I used Ari’s card. I hope you see my sincerity.” He rushed to coax his sweetheart, a smile finally gracing her face after his extravagant expenditure.

“Sincerity? I’ve been with you for over twenty years. Forgiving you this quickly is already being lenient!” Elizabeth pursed her lips and poked his head. “Do you think spending a million dollars is enough? Do you know how much I’ve suffered? I raised our son alone and stayed by your side, facing criticism and being called a mistress! Do you know how much that hurt?” Tears welled in her eyes.

She continued, her voice tinged with resentment, “Do you know how much time I spent choosing a dress, wanting to look a little prettier? I wanted you to be proud, not embarrassed, when we attended the auction. I did all this for you!”

She paused, then continued, “Since our son works for the company, I can’t embarrass you both when we go out, can I? Look what happened! Someone froze my cards, and I was so ashamed! Do you know how the salespeople looked at me?” Her anger flared, fueled by the memory of her humiliation.

Joseph, noticing her distress, hugged her tightly, ignoring her struggles. “Okay, I know you’re upset. Don’t cry. I’ve bought everything you wanted, haven’t I? I know you felt wronged, but things are getting better, aren’t they?”

“Better? Are you sure?” Elizabeth stopped struggling, leaning against his chest. “You’ll coax me, then go home to your wife. You’re lying. Would you dare divorce her? You wouldn’t!”

“Divorce…” Joseph was stunned. “We’ve been married for many years, and Eloise has contributed much to the family. She also still holds shares in Tanner Corporation. I need to acquire as many of her shares as possible before Damian secures his place in the company. We can’t afford mistakes.”

Hearing about her son, Elizabeth ceased her complaints. “Can Damian take over the company? Is that true?” Despite Joseph’s countless promises, anxiety lingered; the fear of failure, even with their only son, remained. She needed certainty.

“Of course! Our son is the best! He’s working on a huge project, nearing completion. Afterward, he’ll have a position in the company, and we’ll move him up the ladder.” Hope bloomed in Elizabeth’s eyes, her mood lifting. “When that happens, my years of hard work will pay off.”

“It will!” Joseph kissed her cheek, grinning. “Tell me if you like anything at the auction in a few days. I’ll buy it as an early birthday present. Your birthday’s coming soon, isn’t it? I’ll buy anything you want.”

“Really?” Elated, Elizabeth wrapped her arms around his neck. “You can’t go back on your word!”
