Chapter 720
Seeing Arianna's preoccupied silence and sighs, Eloise hesitated to ask further questions. "Forget it," she said. "You don't have to say anything if you don't want to. No matter what, I'll always support your decision."
She patted Arianna's hand with one hand while retrieving the TV remote from behind the sofa with the other. After a moment's thought, she pressed the power button. "It's been a while since we watched a show together. Come, keep me company for a while."
Arianna felt better in Eloise's presence. Returning to her room would likely reignite her anger. She swallowed her impulse to go upstairs and sat down obediently. "Okay," she said. She had nothing better to do anyway; she was waiting for results from both sides and had a couple of free days.
Eloise, a rare TV watcher, struggled to find something to watch. After flipping through several channels without success, she stared blankly ahead, growing sleepy. Turning to Arianna, she saw the girl also drifting off. "Why don't we go toโ" she began, but before she could say "bed," a voice from the television caught her attention.
"Here are two samplesโฆ"
The voice was familiar. Eloise glanced at the screen to see Lily giving a press conference. Having cut off contact with Nathaniel, Eloise had stopped paying attention to Lilyโshe wouldn't be her daughter-in-law, and as long as Lily remained no threat, Eloise didn't care. But was this a live broadcast?
She reached for the remote to change the channel, but Arianna called out, "Mom, don't change the channel!" Arianna had been waiting for updates on the conference and wanted to watch the live broadcast.
"I misclicked," Eloise said, noticing Arianna's attentiveness. She switched the channel back, and they watched intently.
"Lily's more capable than I thought," Eloise sighed. "Who would've thought of adding herbs to perfumes? There are all sorts of people in the world."
Arianna, however, was focused on something else: Alexander, standing behind Lily. The ruthless man, capable of shaking an entire city, looked at Lily with softness and affection. His focus seemed entirely on her, as if she were the only person in the world for him.
Arianna clenched her fists. She wondered what she lacked compared to Lily. If not for Lily, Alexander might have seen Arianna differently. Her interest waned as she realized Lily had even saved a sinking boat. The woman was remarkably resilient. Despite everything, she always seemed to come out on top. Arianna wished she had such a strong support system.
Arianna's gaze drifted back to Alexander, a complicated feeling in her heart. Just as she was about to get up, another voice sharply cut through the broadcast:
"Your grandfather is still dead, isn't he?"
Arianna froze, her eyes fixed on the television.
