Chapter 694
"Got it! I understand!" Nathaniel nodded fervently.
Satisfied, Damian opened the door and left the office. Nathaniel's smile faded as he watched the door close, his expression becoming unreadable. He thought, This brat is quite cautious! He doesn't trust me completely yet, and there are still things he's keeping from me! However, that scheming mind of his is nothing to me! The Tanner family will be under my control one day!
"Mom, aren't you bored staying at home all day? You should get out more and enjoy life. There's an auction in a few days; I'll bring you. You can buy a few things you like," Arianna chatted with her mother while they shopped in a luxury goods store.
Eloise's expression was gloomy. In the past, she had been in control. Recently, however, she felt her husband was growing increasingly distant. Joseph always returned home at night, but he'd been rarely home in the last two weeks, obviously with his mistress. The thought of seeing Damian at home, and her inability to change things, added to her stress.
"What's the point of buying them if I can't keep them in the end?" Eloise sighed, her fingertips brushing the fabric of a garment. She wasn't in the mood to shop.
"Mom, don't be like that!" Arianna turned, lightly taking Eloise's hand. "You're not acting like yourself. My mom has always been confident and charming! Why wouldn't you be able to keep them? You were the best actress of your time, and you're still beautiful!"
Eloise smiled helplessly. "I'm just an old lady now."
"Hello" A timid voice sounded. "Excuse me, are you Ms. Neville? The best actress, Ms. Eloise Neville?"
A saleswoman, clutching a small notebook and pen, looked at Eloise with nervousness and excitement.
When Eloise nodded, the woman exclaimed, "It's you! Oh my God, I'm so happy! I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm a huge fan! I'm so glad I met you. Could I get an autograph?" She held the notebook tightly.
"Sure," Eloise nodded, signing the book. It had been a long time, and she felt slightly unfamiliar with the process. She paused briefly before returning the book.
The woman thanked her profusely and ran off to show her friends.
Arianna smiled at her mother. "See? You're still charming, and you still have fans!"
Eloise glanced at her daughter and shook her head. "Do you think that little plan is enough to comfort me?"
