Chapter 659
Lily sneered icily. "How is that not my business? Granduncle just said that only Lodge family members should be present. If Grandpa expelled you, what right do you have to be here?"
Henry glared at her. "You're not qualified to question my presence."
"Wrong," Lily retorted, meeting his gaze. "I have the right, and everyone here does, to question your presence."
Jonathan cleared his throat. "Lily, you're right, but Henry isn't wrong either. Let bygones be bygones. There shouldn't be lasting hatred between father and son. Everyone knows Henry was your grandfather's favorite. He acted out of anger when he banished Henry, and we shouldn't dwell on it. You were very young when it happened; you couldn't have understood."
Although Jonathan's words sounded fair, he was clearly favoring Henry and minimizing your grandfather's decision. It was obvious Jonathan and Henry were in cahoots.
He coughed into his fist. "Furthermore, Henry is still your uncle, and you're being disrespectful."
Lily stressed, "We're here to discover the truth about my grandfather's death, not discuss seniority. And if we're talking seniority, Henry shouldn't be giving orders! He's not family; he's not my uncle. My attitude toward him is irrelevant to today's discussion!"
Henry narrowed his eyes. "You have a sharp tongue." He hadn't paid much attention to Lily years ago, when he left the family. He only heard occasional news from the Lodge family during his difficult years away. Lily was insignificant then, and he wouldn't have noticed her if she hadn't become an obstacle to reclaiming his position. He'd underestimated her.
Jonathan banged his cane on the floor. "Enough! We're here for the truth. Stop this distraction. Are you intentionally obstructing us?"
He turned, took something from someone behind him, and faced Lily again, his gaze intense. He walked toward her, stopped, and thrust a document into her arms. "Look at this!"
Simultaneously, everyone received a copy of the document and began to read.
