Chapter 582
"Are you a perfumer?" the girl asked, impressed by Lily's expert assessment.
"Yes," Lily nodded, her gaze still fixed on the piece of grass. "Now, can you tell me where you found this, or... could I buy it from you?" Lily assumed the girl might want to profit from it, given how much she valued it.
Unexpectedly, the girl refused. "I'm not selling it."
Without waiting for a response, she approached her companions. "You lot don't know how to appreciate good things! Look, this perfumer said it's great!" she exclaimed triumphantly, like a child receiving praise.
Lily was startled by the girl's abrupt rejection and subsequent boasting. This was bewildering.
"What perfumer? Stop lying," one of the group retorted. "Although we don't have the title yet, we're professionals with equivalent skills. Rachel's uncle is an internationally renowned perfumer, and even she said there's nothing special about what you've brought. Stop lying to yourself. Let's go for karaoke later to clear your mind!"
The others waved her off dismissively, clearly unconvinced.
Furious but defiant, the girl retorted, "Who cares if you can't recognize a good thing? Someone else will! But you shouldn't shun others. Didn't you all say this grass is worthless?! I'll sell it right now and show you!"
She proudly returned to Lily. "Didn't you say you want to buy this? How much will you pay?"
Lily leaned back, regarding the girl with amusement. "How much do you want?"
The girl glanced at the two pieces of grass in her box. Chewing her lip, she replied, "I have about two acres of it. Do you want to buy everything?"
Before Lily could answer, the onlookers erupted in laughter. "Two acres? Kasey, did you offer two acres of plain grass? Do you take people for idiots? You can't just try to trick them like this!"
One of the girls approached Kasey, placing a hand on her shoulder while picking up a piece of grass. Bringing it to her nose, she said, "We're just looking out for you. This is really common. We understand you want to win, butโ"
"I'll buy everything," Lily interrupted.
Witnessing Kasey's humiliation, Lily felt empathy. She was going to buy it anyway. However, she was surprised by Kasey's claim of owning two acres. Buying the entire grassland was inconsequential to Lily. Everyone, including Kasey, was stunned into silence. All eyes turned to Lily as if she were a monster.
The tension was palpable. A moment later, the girl beside Kasey smirked, removing her hand and dropping the grass back into the box. "This lady has good taste! I hope you make it big!"
The words, though seemingly complimentary, were laced with mockery. They all seemed to anticipate Lily's next move.
Meanwhile, three people in a private room watched the unfolding scene. One of them cried out in surprise, "What is she doing here?!"
