Chapter 559
Smiling, Eloise looked at Lily and said, "You're rejecting me because of my relationship with Nate, aren't you?"
Lily was surprised. She looked at Eloise with disbelief. She couldn't understand how Eloise had so quickly discovered the secret she'd been hiding for decades.
"You don't need to look at me like that. I know you've found out," Eloise said softly. "I'm bringing this up because I want to talk more easily now that we're both aware. It'll be difficult to talk with others around. Since it's just us, we can be honest."
"This has nothing to do with what you said. I rejected you because I can't, and that's it," Lily explained.
"Really?" Eloise leaned forward, staring into Lily's eyes. "Then let me ask you this: where is Nate now?" Lily was puzzled. "How would I know?"
"How could you not know? He only thought about you; everything he did was to win you back. You were the last person he saw before he went missing! Don't you know where he is? Hasn't he contacted you?"
"Nathaniel is missing?"
"That's why I haven't seen him. I thought he was rebuilding his life somewhere, accepting defeat, but he's missing. How could a grown man disappear so suddenly? Was it because of the bankruptcy?"
Eloise studied Lily, searching for signs of deception. "You don't know about it?"
"No, I have no idea. Since you know about my past with Nate, you know we ended things long ago. What he does is none of my concern anymore," Lily shrugged. She felt only momentary shock at his disappearance; anything related to him was irrelevant to her.
Eloise was silent for a moment. She gulped her sparkling water, setting the can down sharply. "Lily, are you that heartless? You two dated for years! Although I couldn't reveal my identity, I always approved of you as my daughter-in-law."
"Nate wronged me in the past, but a man's willingness to admit mistakes and change is valuable. He knows what he did wrong and promised to return; why can't you give him another chance? Don't you have any feelings for him anymore?"
After a pause, Eloise said heavily, "I don't believe you don't love him! You sacrificed so much for him. That means you still love him, right? Alexander is a great man, but being the wife of a wealthy, influential man isn't easy.
I'm speaking from experience. The Russells are not people you want to be involved with. Even the Lodge family won't protect you."
She continued, "Silly girl! Instead of the Russells, be with Nate! I can help you both start over; you can make it if you work together. Real couples face difficulties together!"
Lily chuckled. 'She's so considerate. I'm going to cry; everything she said is for my good.'
"Thank you, Mrs. Tanner! I see you're giving this advice to help me," Lily said, smiling.
"You're agreeing?" Eloise was overjoyed.
