Chapter 499

After saying goodbye to Lisa, Lily went to Sapphine's famous pastry shop to buy a box of shortbread and two cups of hot coffee. She poured the coffee into thermos flasks to keep it warm until she got home.

Alexander sat with his legs crossed, reading. He turned the pages with one hand while holding an empty cup with the other. He lowered his head slightly, and a few strands of unruly hair fell around his face, framing his rimless glasses; he looked elegantly charming.

Although Alexander wasn't nearsighted, he had astigmatism. It usually didn't bother him except when reading, so he wore his glasses. Perhaps it was because he rarely wore them, or perhaps it was simply his good looks, but Lily felt like she was falling in love all over again every time she saw him with them.

When Alexander heard her, he looked up and saw Lily. Under the warm light, his eyes gleamed as he gazed at her tenderly. Lily's heart skipped a beat.

"This man is a sly fox!" she thought.

"You're back," he said, removing his glasses. His eyes regained their sharpness. Lily didn't want to seem awkward, so she quickly changed into her house slippers before approaching him to take his empty cup. "Why didn't you refill your cup? Don't you know how to take care of yourself?"

She produced the thermos flask and pressed the hot, fragrant coffee into his hand. "Here! I remembered you like this flavor."

Alexander chuckled, putting away his documents. He opened the flask, peeked inside, and took a sip. "How did you know I like this?"

"Please! I'm your wife; how could I not know what you like?" Although Lily sounded confident, her face was flushed.

After being with him for so long, she knew his tastes and preferences. It was just that she'd been too preoccupied with work and had neglected him. She was so eager to make up for lost time, so determined to bridge the gap between them, that she'd forgotten to simply love him.

"Oh?" Alexander smiled faintly and pulled her into his arms. Even with this sudden movement, he didn't spill his coffee.

"That's right!" Lily snuggled into his arms, then quickly pushed herself away, her hands on his chest. "I'm cold, and you're warm. Be careful, or you'll catch a cold." It was indeed freezing outside. Even after entering the house and removing her coat, Lily still felt chilly, while Alexander remained warm.

"Great. Since I'm warm and you're cold, we can balance each other out," Alexander said, his grip tightening around her waist. His body heat quickly warmed her.

"I met Lisa today, and she asked me to help create an exclusive perfume for her." Alexander nodded, listening to Lily recount her day. "That's great. Just remember not to overwork yourself."

"I know. That's why I told Lisa I couldn't do it now. She'll have to wait if she really wants me to create her perfume. I didn't expect her to ask me, though. I always felt that was something for people more established in the industry."

It was unusual for someone to approach someone without proper qualifications and fame to create a fragrance.

"That just proves how capable you are," Alexander said reassuringly.

Lily laughed. "That's not it! It's because Lisa and I are friends, and she trusts me! Capability isn't something you just say you have; you have to prove it!"

She then pushed away from Alexander, stood up, and retrieved the shortbread from the paper bag. "I bought these for you. I know you like them."
