Chapter 471
Alexander held a kitchen knife, lowering his head in thought before slowly replying, "She only likes to eat my cooking."
Brandon remained silent, forced to witness this display of affection. He nibbled on a cucumber from the refrigerator, leaning against the counter to watch Alexander cook. Alexander's skillful movementsโchopping and washingโsuggested familiarity with kitchen work. Seeing Alexander cooking, Brandon sighed deeply. He'd never expected this. Is the power of love so great? He'd probably never cook for any woman in his life, he thought.
"My interest in her is growing," Brandon said, trying to elicit more information without irritating Alexander. "What kind of woman makes you love her so much?" Alexander didn't look up. He added the prepared ingredients to the pot with a sizzle, saying calmly, "People like you will never understand." He flipped the spatula, seemingly enjoying the process. Fck! What does he mean by "people like me?!" I've been in many relationships, okay?* Alexander's tone implied Brandon had never seen a woman before. Disdainful, Brandon looked away, toward the kitchen window. Thenโ
"Oh my God!"
Brandon dropped the cucumber and jumped back, poised to leap onto Alexander like a koala. Startled, Alexander nearly dropped the pot. He turned, hitting Brandon's head with the spatula. "Are you crazy?!"
"I'm not! There's a ghost in your house!" Brandon pointed, his hands trembling. Alexander looked up to see a woman at the kitchen door. Her body was dirty, mud caked on her, her long, wet hair plastered to her cheek. She looked like a ghost.
Alexander immediately recognized his wife, Lily. Stunned by her appearance, he hastily set down the cookware and lowered the heat. He approached her warmly. "What's wrong?"
"Who is he?!" Lily frowned at the stranger, pointing at Brandon in confusion. Brandon was speechless. Oh no, the "female ghost" is pointing at me! Is she going to kill me?! She's so scary! He trembled uncontrollably.
"A nobody," Alexander said indifferently. "Are you all right?"
"I'm fine. I went to the suburbs to collect materials and slipped. It was raining, and I got soaked." Lily brushed her hair, uncomfortable in her wet clothes. "I'll go shower and change."
"Okay. Be careful not to catch a cold." Alexander, feeling sorry for her, patted her cheek. Lily nodded, glancing at Brandon again before going upstairs. Watching the "female ghost" disappear, Brandon's heart slowed. He patted his chest, looking at Alexander, who calmly returned to cooking. Alexander's demeanor was indifferent and calm, yet he'd been gentle with the "ghost." Brandon easily guessed her identity.
"W-Was that yourโฆ Is sheโฆ"
"Haven't you met her before?" Alexander said lightly. "Also, you screamed too loudly. You scared her."
