Brandon was persistent, and Alexander, roughly guessing his intention, remained silent. He looked at Edward and said, "Drive!"

Brandon realized Alexander's meaning as the car started and quickly closed the door. Securing some time with Alexander wasn't easy; leaving his own car in the underground parking lot was a minor inconvenience. This was a rare opportunity. Brandon needed to carefully compose his questions to avoid abruptness. As he formulated his sentences, Alexander asked, "Did Brittany put you up to this?"

Brandon stared, astonished, his face stiff. Dude, you can read my mind!

"I can't read your mind," Alexander said calmly, glancing at him. "You have it written all over your face."

Well, if Alex can't read my mind, how did he know what I was thinking?!

Alexander continued, his tone harsher than before, "I know what you're thinking because I know why you're here."

Brandon was petrified. Dude, this isn't how it should be going. He's too scary! I haven't even spoken yet. Is he psychic? How did he answer me before I could reply?! He stuttered, "T-Thatis it true?" He blinked several times, attempting to appear normal.

If not, how could Alexander have guessed his thoughts so accurately, even knowing what he would ask?

"Yes, it's true," Alexander paused, observing Brandon's pained expression. He added, "Also, no."

Brandon was stunned. "What do you mean, yes and no?"

Yes is yes, and no is no. What does Alex mean? What kind of riddle is this?!

"I'm not engaged," Alexander explained. "I'm married." He and Lily had already signed the marriage certificate—a simple formality—making an engagement unnecessary. He'd told Derrick that Lily was his fiancée because he lacked a suitable way to introduce her. It also served to inform the Lodge family of their relationship, letting them know the marriage was definite, regardless of their approval.

Before Brandon could process this, Alexander added, "F*ck, how can you"
