Chapter 454

"Grandpa, I'm sorry for being unruly," Lily whispered. She felt unfilial for fighting with her family over a man.

"Silly girl, everyone's unruly when they're young," he chuckled. "Just remember this will always be your home!" He paused, turning his head and coughing several times.

Lily sprang up, alarmed. "Are you all right? I'll call the doctor!"

"No need!" He held her down, frowning. "It's nothing. I'll just drink some water and rest."

He picked up his water glass and took two sips. "See? I'm fine. Are you leaving already? I'm not worried about you; you're capable. Visit anytime."

After a pause, he added, "Alexander seems like a good man. But take a close look before you marry him. Don't rush!"

Wilfred noticed her hesitation, a worried look crossing his face. "Are you saying you two have already?"

Lily had been debating whether to tell him, but since he'd asked, she decided honesty was best. "Grandpa," she said through gritted teeth, "Alexander and I are legally married. We have our marriage certificate."

"What?!" Wilfred shot upright, eyes wide. "You?"

"It wasn't planned!" she quickly explained. "We haven't made it public yet. We didn't mean to hide it from you."

"You haven't made it public yet?" he repeated, frowning. He then mused, "Indeed, if this were disclosed, the Lodge family would find out."

"Is Justin in the dark too?" Wilfred asked.

"I suppose so," Lily admitted. If Justin found out, he would certainly tell Wilfred.

"Okay, that's great! You've grown up! You make your own decisions now!" Wilfred nodded, though Lily, from years of experience, sensed his underlying anger.

"Grandpa, we were in a difficult situation. I didn't intend to hide it."

She explained the hasty marriage, a blur of events, a mix of impulsive decision and perhaps fate. Initially, she'd only wanted his help, but a mix-up with documents led to the marriage certificate. It was done, but she didn't regret it.

Wilfred waved his hand, closing his eyes and leaning back. "Forget it. What's done is done. Should I ask you to get a divorce? However" He opened his eyes. "Since you're married, you shouldn't hide it. Announce it. I won't let the Lodge family feel wronged."

He decided to accept the situation; he liked Alexander. "Okay!" Lily nodded, feeling a warmth spread through her.
