Chapter 438

The Lodge family's house was located not in the center of Brown City, but in the suburbs. It was a large estate encompassing a vast area with beautiful mountain and river scenery.

The Lodge family's history at the estate was unknown; they had resided there for many years. A rumor circulated that the family had a long history in kickboxing, passed down through generations, but this remained an unconfirmed legend. No one had ever witnessed a Lodge family member practicing kickboxing, so the rumor couldn't be verified.

Currently, most Lodge family members were involved in business. However, there were also professors, doctors, and others. The family's size and prominence inspired awe among those who knew of them. Their exact lineage, however, remained a mystery, adding to their enigmatic reputation.

Many cars lined the driveway; tire marks and compacted snow on the road were evident, likely due to the upcoming birthday celebration for Lily's grandfather. The car stopped at the gate, where they needed to present their invitation.

Alexander loosened his collar and started to reach for the invitation when Lily lowered the car window and addressed the guard: "It's me."

Having been away for some time, the guard was surprised. Only after a closer look did he recognize her.

"Ms. Lily?! You're back!" he exclaimed, reacting quickly.

"Yes, I'm here for Grandpa's birthday," she replied softly.

"Open the gate quickly!" he instructed, waving his hand. "Go tell the master that Ms. Lily has arrived!"

Excitement rippled through the staff. It seemed Lily's return was warmly welcomed. Alexander watched her raise the car window with a solemn expression. He said nothing, simply holding her hand gently.

Another ten-minute drive from the gate brought them to the house. Many cars were already parked at the entrance. Lily spotted Justin's car, unsurprising given the occasion.

However, she wished to avoid the large gathering. She disliked socializing in such crowded, noisy environments.

Seeing her hesitation, Alexander offered a solution: "I'll take the gifts inside. You can use a different entrance to avoid the crowd and see your grandfather privately, right?"

He attended not only as her husband but also as a representative of the Russell familyโ€”a necessary social obligation she disliked. He also wanted to prevent her from encountering situations that might lead to gossip. Therefore, separate entrances were preferable.

Lily agreed; it was the best arrangement.

Alexander carried a velvet box containing an art masterpiece. Lily's wooden crane sculpture, however, required separate transport.

Alexander leaned over, kissed her forehead, and said, "I'll find you after I've finished greeting everyone."

"Okay!" she replied obediently, watching him exit the car and ascend the steps, followed closely by Edward carrying the velvet box.
