Chapter 393

"Me?" Lisa exclaimed, shocked and angry. She pointed at herself, completely unprepared for Helen's accusation.

"You told me Lily was your friend! You asked me to trust her, which I did. Now you're taking her to dinner with my man and son? What is wrong with you?"

The more Helen spoke, the more Lisa felt the accusations were true. Lisa nodded repeatedly, her annoyance growing. "Yes, I didn't have a good heart! I didn't have the heart to help you bring Nick out to eat. I didn't have the heart to help you connect with your son. I didn't have the heart to help you both make peace. Go ahead and blame me! It's my fault for being blind and being friends with you!"

"Lisa," Lily interjected softly, attempting to de-escalate the argument before it further traumatized Nick. She noticed Nick cowering under the table, his fingers clenched, his shoulders trembling. Lily longed to comfort him, but the table was in the way.

Lily's intervention gave Lisa an idea. Taking Lily's hand, she said, "You're right, Helen. I'm a terrible person and I no longer care about you. Lily and Mike make a good couple, but people like you will never stand a chance!"

"How dare you?!" Helen screamed, lunging forward, but stopped short as a glass shattered. Shards of glass sprayed around her feet. Though unharmed, the sudden incident shocked her. Mike, who had thrown the cup, remained impassive. With a cold expression, he said, "I'll say this for the last time: disappear from my eyes, or elseโ€ฆ I'll make you disappear forever!"

Helen shuddered. Her shocked expression gave way to misery and fear. "Mike, don't do this! I admit it's my fault. Please understand me as a parent. Just look at Nick."

"Nick?" Mike turned, but Nick was gone. He'd closed his eyes, trying to block out the argument.

Unconcerned with the escalating conflict, Lily rose and went to Nick. She knelt beside him, offering silent comfort. "Don't touch my son!" Helen shrieked.

Mike thundered, "Leave, Helen!"

Helen's scream died in her throat. Afraid of Mike, she subdued her anger, saying calmly, "Mike, please don't be angry. I'll goโ€ฆ"

Fearful, she turned to leave, but glared fiercely at Lily before departing. Lily, however, remained oblivious, focused entirely on Nick. She sat quietly, inching closer, her foot brushing against his. Nick instinctively pulled his foot away, but Lily gently placed her foot near his again. She offered no words, only quiet companionship.

After a moment, Nick slowly opened his eyes and turned to look at Lily. Mike reached for his son, but Lily quickly looked up and silently gestured him to stop. Lisa, observing this exchange, found it peculiar but remained silent, watching along with Mike. Finally, after a while, Nick reacted to Lily's presence.
