Chapter 391
"You miss them?" Lisa asked, puzzled.
"I remember you don't have any family. Do you have a boyfriend?" Lily smiled subtly.
Instead of directly answering about her boyfriend, she said, "I have a family, but I don't keep in touch with them often."
"A lot of guys are probably chasing someone as outstanding as you," Mike teased.
Lisa waved her hand. "You have no idea," she replied to Mike. "Lily is amazing, but a workaholic. If it weren't for that jerkโฆ" She frowned, momentarily forgetting the person's name, and continued, "Anyway, if he hadn't been chasing you so closely, I guess you'd still be single. I'm sorry." She stopped abruptly, remembering their breakup. Lisa knew little of their past; if not for this competition, she wouldn't have seen Lily again. She only knew Lily's recent history.
"It's okay," Lily said with a dismissive smile. "It's all in the past."
"Then, do you have a boyfriend now?" Lisa asked cautiously.
Lily paused. "I guess so?" she replied. Even that was an understatement; Alexander was already her husband. The thought made her chuckle inwardly. She'd never called him that, and doubted she could if he were present.
"Wow, you've never mentioned him before. Introduce him to me next time!"
Having a boyfriend meant Lily had moved on. Lisa was happy for her.
"Lily's boyfriend must be awesome," Mike said with a smile.
Lily nodded, offering no false modesty. Alexander was excellent and deserved the praise. Mike, slightly surprised by her unconventionally straightforward acceptance of the compliment, regarded her with increased interest.
The meal was pleasant, but as Lily prepared to leave, a loud noise erupted from the stairs.
"Let me in! Do you know who I am? How dare you stop me!"
A woman's familiar voice. Before Lily could react, the woman stormed up the stairs. "Mike, you can't keep me from seeing Nick!"
It was Helen. Lily hadn't expected this; Mike must have instructed the staff to bar her entry. They'd tried to stop her, but failed.
Nick turned toward Helen's voice, but after glancing at his father, he obediently remained seated. "Nick? Nick! Mommy's here!" Helen shouted, oblivious to their surroundings.
A server hurried over, profusely apologizing. Mike calmly wiped his lips with a napkin. "Let her up," he said.
