Chapter 321
Helen's panic was markedly different from her earlier display. Terror and nervousness were etched across her pretty face. Lily, curious, turned to see several men approaching. The leader wore rimless glasses and a tailor-made suit; the others appeared to be assistants and bodyguards. His face was calm, exuding an air of gentlemanly composure. He seemed to be of Asian descent.
"Mike, you're here! Please listen to my explanation," Helen cried, rushing toward Mike Cordon, tears streaming down her face as she attempted a hug. A bodyguard intervened.
Mike looked at her coldly. "Where's Nick?"
"He's still in the emergency room," Helen sobbed incoherently. "I don't know how this happened. We had a wonderful day; he was happy. I don't know whyโฆ I donโt knowโฆ I honestly don't knowโฆ"
Lily raised an eyebrow, speechless. Are they a couple? But what kind of couple acts like this? The scene was bizarre. She looked questioningly at Lisa, who remained impassive.
"Helen, I warned you against meeting Nick privately," Mike said coldly. "You ignored me. If anything happens to Nick, I will end you." His voice was calm, yet every word was ruthlessly delivered.
A chill gripped Lily's heart. She saw Helen collapse to her knees, trembling uncontrollably.
"No! You can't treat me this way!" Helen cried. "I'm his mother! You can't do this to me!"
Mike looked down at the quivering Helen, a mocking expression on his face. "Do you deserve to be treated otherwise?" Lily was stunned. Gosh, what a ruthless and cold-blooded man.
After a moment, Helen seemed to remember something. She pointed a perfectly manicured purple fingernail at Lily. "No, it wasn't me! It was her!"
"Huh?" Lily was bewildered.
"She did strange things to Nick. If anything happens to him, it's her fault! It was her!"
Lily's sympathy vanished. This woman deserved whatever she got. Surely someone treated so pitifully must have done something terrible. Lily was incredulous at Helen's accusation. Nick's condition remained unknown, pending test results. Even if the worst happened, it would likely be due to a severe allergy, not Lily's first aid. How could Helen blame her? That woman should be called "Evil" instead of Helen.
Mike scrutinized Lily, who met his gaze unflinchingly. She had a clear conscience; there was no reason to fear.
