Chapter 300

"Can I not go?" Lily asked. She desperately wanted to sleep; lack of sleep was awful.

"Technically, yes," Giselle replied, without waiting for Lily to respond. "However, out of courtesy, you can't."

"I don't care about courtesy. I want to sleep," Lily retorted, turning and walking back into the room. She sprawled onto the bed, sighing, "Oh, this is so comfortable."

Giselle followed. "Ms. Christian, even disregarding courtesy, from a biological standpoint, you shouldn't sleep now to acclimatize yourself. Otherwise, you won't sleep tonight, making you sleepy tomorrow. Research shows morning sleepiness negatively impacts your entire day, directly affecting your performance in the afternoon's product competition. A poor showing due to lack of sleep would be upsetting, even without company penalties."

Lily was speechless, about to fall asleep again when Giselle's nagging made her want to collapse. She realized, for the first time, that nagging could actually knock someone out. Still, Giselle was acting in the company's best interest, and though Lily wanted to be angry, she knew Giselle was right.

Lily sat up, legs folded. She felt lethargic. "All right, I know. I'll go shower and change, okay?"

Giselle nodded. "Good idea, Ms. Christian."

Lily was speechless. Giselle had practically forced her!

"I'll go back to my room now. I'll be back here in an hour."

Lily remained speechless. The Westwood trip had started poorly. She knew she couldn't stay in bed. She showered, feeling much better afterward, and got dressed.

Olivia had helped her choose outfits; she'd initially planned to bring seven or eight formal dresses, but realized they were taking up too much space and reduced it to four, plus her casual clothes. This, she decided, was sufficient.

Giselle had mentioned a welcome dinner, so Lily chose a maxi dress with a white shawl. Surely this was appropriate. Instead of waiting for Giselle, she went next door and knocked. Giselle answered, wearing a professional office suit. Her expression showed approval of Lily's attire.

"Giselle, where are we going now?" Lily asked with a smile.

"The organizers are sending a car. Let's go downstairs. The timing should be perfect," Giselle said, checking her watch. "Perfect. Right on time."

Lily was enjoying a light moment, but Giselle said seriously, "This is my job, Ms. Christian. Please do yours. Let's do well and make the company proud."

Lily was speechless. Where did this old battle-axe come from? Why did the company send someone like her?
