Chapter 26
"I-I'm full," Lily murmured, her cheeks flushing crimson. "You're probably tired, so let's go home and rest. We'll talk about the rest tomorrow." As if sensing Lily's unease, Alexander said, "I'll let Edward know about your request. Don't worry." His words eased her anxiety.
She appreciated his understanding and proactive approach.
In the car, Alexander asked, "Are you renting your current place?" "Yes," Lily replied. "Cancel your contract and move in with me," he said, taking her hand.
Lily's heart skipped a beat. She tightened her grip on his hand, her head bowed, lost in thought. Alexander didn't rush her, simply waiting patiently, their hands clasped.
The prospect of moving in together wasn't unexpected, but the timing surprised her. They were married, they were intimate; it made perfect sense.
Lily nodded. "Okay."
"Let's move your things now, shall we?" Alexander's efficiency was evident.
They arrived at Lily's apartment. She went upstairs alone to pack essentialsโmostly clothes. She discarded her bedding and other miscellaneous items. She gathered her important documents, called her landlord to cancel the lease, and carefully checked the apartment before leaving.
Only then did she fully realize her solitude. She had envisioned a business partnership with Nathaniel, a shared goal. It had been her dream alone.
At the door, she paused, bidding farewell to her past. "'Goodbye, my past.'"
Alexander was surprised by the single bag. "That's it?"
"I only packed important items. The rest doesn't matter," she replied. She was relieved Nathaniel wasn't there; she wasn't in the mood to explain. His visits were infrequent anyway.
The drive home was silent, except for Alexander's gentle thumb rubbing the back of Lily's hand. The car pulled up to Imperial Hills, the city's most exclusive neighborhoodโa community of opulent mansions designed by top architects and interior designers, each with its own private garden. Its residents were symbols of wealth and status. Lily wasn't surprised Alexander lived there, but she was surprised by the absence of maids. She quickly discovered the mansion was fully automated.
"Are you the only one living here?" Lily asked, noticing the emptiness.
"It'll be just the two of us, from today onward," Alexander replied, placing the mansion key in her palm.
