Chapter 254

The duo planned a beach trip, each for different reasons. Olivia, raised in the countryside, had never seen the ocean. Lily sought inspiration, though her past beach memories were hazy, dating back to her childhood. They'd agreed on the location and needed only Alexander's approval for their trip, coordinating with Jennyโ€™s schedule. Everything seemed to be proceeding smoothly.

After finalizing the trip details, a silence fell. Olivia, initially engrossed in her phone, looked up at Lily and blurted out, "Did you know Nathaniel was hospitalized in an accident?"

"Yeah, I saw the news," Lily replied. She'd been on the phone with Olivia when the news broke, initially stunned. Only the mention of MN Inc. confirmed it was the Nathaniel.

She knew Nathaniel to be a cautious driver, a man who valued his life and avoided risk. Yet, the accident scene on TV looked horrificโ€”shattered glass, a broken tree trunk. The reporter could have easily reported him dead at the scene.

"It's karma!" Olivia exclaimed, softly hitting the table. "Why did it happen? Online, it says there was little traffic that night, the road was clear, and he wasn't drunk. Why did he hit a tree?"

Lily, less informed than Olivia, found the accident even more perplexing.

"A penny for your thoughts?" Olivia asked.

"What thoughts? It's none of my business," Lily replied, feigning disinterest. While she wouldn't lie and say the accident didn't affect herโ€”she'd known Nathaniel for years, and he had been her true loveโ€”her feelings for him had died gradually, eroded by his affair, their numerous arguments and lawsuits, and his constant attempts to smear her. Still, it was just a car accident; he was alive. She saw no need to dwell on it.

Olivia, however, felt differently. "That's not the point. I wanted to ask if you thought it was creepy."

"What do you mean?"

"It seems you don't care about him!" Olivia leaned in conspiratorially, whispering, "According to the investigation, he wasn't drunk or on drugs, he was aloneโ€ฆ do you thinkโ€ฆ that thing was in the car?"

Lily stared at Olivia, confused. Olivia glanced around before whispering, "I mean, a ghost!"

Lily was speechless.
