Chapter 2354

"Why?" Yasmin was baffled. "Why do you want to live forever? Aren't you tired?"

Dominic's answer stumped her. She did have a great deal to contend with daily, thoughts that plagued her even in sleep. Yet, this was precisely why she longed to continue living.

"I'm tired, but I still have so much to do," she said thoughtfully. "If I could prolong my life, I probably wouldn't be as tired; I could accomplish more without rushing." She attributed her exhaustion to the brevity of her life, believing a longer lifespan would allow her to achieve more. This fueled her desire for immortality.

"Come on," Dominic said suddenly. Yasmin was puzzled.

"Don't you think you're overthinking this?" he asked. "There's an endless list of things to do. How long do you plan to work?"

Yasmin thought, As long as I possibly can! She looked away, sensing that as a commoner, Dominic wouldn't understand the depth of her feelings. "Many people need me, and I don't think you understand that."

"Well, I don't," he replied. "Why must anyone overwork themselves? What's the point?"

Dominic reflected, Many people push themselves for materialistic goals these days. Yes, we need to provide for ourselves, but what about other aspects of life? We should learn to let go. Then we'll realize our lives aren't as dramatically affected as we believe. Pushing ourselves too hard only makes us miserable.

Yasmin sighed. "If I don't push myself, things will go wrong, and many people will suffer." She looked at Dominic. "Let's say many people will die if you don't treat them. Will you be able to let go?"

"I absolutely can."

His immediate answer surprised her. Yasmin shook her head gently.

Sensing her disbelief, Dominic explained, "Hey, even though people call me a miracle doctor, do you think I've always been able to save my patients? I'm not God, all right? I can't save everyone."
