It doesn't seem like Mike has been poisoned. However, his wrist pulse is abnormal, so something is clearly wrong. The organization's creations are bizarre and anti-human, making diagnosis difficult. "Still, his life isn't in danger for now," Austin said, pausing before looking at Mike. "In other words, you're not dying anytime soon."
Although blunt, Austin meant to be candid.
"That's good enough," Mike replied, withdrawing his hand unconcernedly. "As long as I don't die anytime soon, it won't be an issue."
"What the hell are you talking about? Being okay now doesn't mean you'll be okay later. Various viruses don't take effect immediately. No one knows what her virus will do to you!" Austin's frustration stemmed from his own past experience with Rhea's creations. Seeing Mike's nonchalance angered him. He assumed Mike hadn't grasped the severity of the potential consequences. But he was wrong. A tired yet resolute Mike smiled and waved.
"It's not that I don't fear dying. It's good the poison isn't taking effect now. We have many important tasks. I don't care as long as I can rescue Nicky before my condition worsens." He murmured calmly, "I mean it."
Austin felt a pang of sadness. He understood Mike's acceptance of his current stateโhis only concern was rescuing his son.
"Are you stupid? Even if you let her poison you, you might be unable to save..." Austin couldn't bring himself to finish the sentence. He knew how much saving Nick meant to Mike. His previous emotional outbursts revealed the immense tension he was under.
"I know I might not save my son, but what else can I do? I had to seize the opportunity. Besides, I couldn't consult you guys when Rhea tried hypnotizing me. I had to make a choice then," Mike explained, pausing before continuing. "I didn't have time to think. It was a one-time opportunity. If I didn't seize it, I might never have another chance."
"Besides, we can't enter the embassy, and we can't gather information without a mole. With Rhea there, she'll tell us what's happening inside."
He was right. Mike's plan had gone smoothly so far. Yet, wouldn't Rhea, cunning and cautious as she was, see through this? Was it really that easy to get her to reveal embassy secrets?
"I'm aware of your concerns and my plans. However, I'm willing to try anything if there's even the slightest chance of success," Mike said, pausing again. "Besides, there's no turning back now. Just let me try, okay?"
