Alexander drove to Dominic's house that night. As if anticipating his arrival, the older man had prepared tea and a few dishes. He smiled upon seeing Alexander, saying, "I've been waiting for you."
"How did youโ"
"You must have come to ask about the invisible woman, huh?" Dominic cut him off.
Alexander chuckled. "Didn't you say it's all nonsense?"
Dominic laughed heartily. "Yes, utter nonsense! Still, I knew you'd ask in person. I just didn't expect you so soon. How about we talk over dinner?"
He poured Alexander a cup of tea and filled his own glass with wine.
Alexander nodded. "Sure!"
He glanced around and asked, "Where's Galen?"
"He's playing in the back. I didn't tell him you were coming, just in case. I didn't want to disappoint him," the older man explained thoughtfully.
Alexander felt a pang of guilt knowing Galen must have missed him and Lily.
"I heard the twins have returned," Dominic remarked after sipping his wine.
Alexander nodded. "Yes, they have." He wasn't surprised Dominic knew; Austin had undoubtedly told him.
"That's excellent news!" Dominic nodded. "I'm sure Lily will be next."
"I've failed her," Alexander said, finishing his tea in one gulp. He couldn't drink alcohol; he'd driven alone.
Dominic, without offering consolation, stated, "Yes, you have. As her husband, you should ensure her safety. Even if she's strong enough to defend herself, there's no point in marrying you if you can't care for her, is there?"
"You're right," Alexander murmured, his head bowed.
Dominic raised his glass. "I'm not trying to reprimand you, just stating a fact. Of course, I know Lily. She's stubborn as a mule, and you can't change her mind once it's made up. I guess you two weren't prepared for this mess."
Alexander knew this was something Dominic had wanted to say for a while.
"Whoever created those viruses is a disgrace to the medical profession!" the older man exclaimed angrily. Then, attempting to calm himself, he added, "Well, they're not the first to do horrible things. Besides, invisibility is pure fantasy. Not everything in movies is real. Everything should obey the laws of nature, and invisibility doesn't."
Alexander remained silent, allowing Dominic to continue his enthusiastic rant.
"That's why I said it was impossible when Austin told me," Dominic continued, sipping his wine. "So, have you found this so-called invisible woman?"
Alexander shook his head. "Not yet."
"She must be hiding then. When you do, let me know," the older man said. "I'd like to see what an invisible woman looks like."
