Chapter 2187
"It will, once we figure it out," Alexander said, picking up a pillow to examine it before setting it down. "Come on, let's go."
He didn't bother locking the door, since Rhea was gone. Upon returning to the main house, Mike asked, "Is Rhea really gone?"
Austin nodded. "Yeah."
"But how? Did someone rescue her? Was it the organization?" Mike looked confused.
Austin shook his head. "No idea."
The lack of explanation was unsettling. Alexander remained silent, frowning. He considered his earlier visit to the outhouse, sensing something amiss, though he couldn't place it. Mike suddenly exclaimed, "No way! That's not possible!"
He clicked his tongue, looking conflicted.
"What's wrong?" Austin asked curiously, nudging him.
"Oh, I just remembered something, but it's absurd," Mike chuckled, shaking his head.
"What's so absurd? Tell us," Austin pressed.
Mike hesitated, then cleared his throat. "Remember the two times I delivered meals to Rhea? Once, she mentioned she'd become invisible if her virus worked. Like in the movies."
"Invisible?" Austin burst into laughter. "Yeah, right!"
"See?" Mike laughed. "That's why I dismissed it."
However, Alexander repeated, "Invisible?"
"Why? Don't tell me you believe that," Austin said laughingly.
"Well, how many incredible things have we seen these past two years?" Alexander countered.
Austin and Mike fell silent. They knew Alexander was right; they'd witnessed the unimaginable. The laboratory's creations, particularly the pursuit of immortality and life extension, were absurd enough. Compared to those, invisibility didn't seem so far-fetched.
After a moment, Mike asked, "Are you saying it's possible?"
"Perhaps," Alexander replied, "but it might not be what happened. What else did she say?"
"Nothing. She just said she could come and go as she pleased, and make a deal with the organization if she were invisible," Mike summarized Rhea's words.
"She's crazy!" Austin exclaimed. But Alexander asked, "When did she say that? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Iโฆ when I delivered the mealsโฆ" Mike stammered, "I forgot the day. I didn't take her seriously, and reacted just like Austin."
