Mike would find some peace if Alexander cared for Nick.

"Hey!" Alexander shoved Mike's hand from his shoulder. "Take care of Nick yourself, got it? Just stay positive and stop worrying. Austin's been through a lot, but he's doing fine, right?"

Austin was surprised. He hadn't expected Alexander to prompt him. Alexander shrugged and smiled awkwardly. "Life goes on. Besides, it's not the end of the world yet. We might still have a chance." He paused. "Can you guess why they haven't started the experiment's last phase?"

Mike blinked. "Why?"

Alexander pondered. "It's not the time yet."

"That's right! I think so, too! They have Lily, and they've abandoned the lab. Why don't they start the last phase now? It must have something to do with timing. What are they waiting for?" Austin stroked his chin.

Mike considered what he knew. "They wanted Lily to recover from her delivery. They're probably waiting for her body to reach an optimal state."

"No, I don't think that's entirely it," Austin disagreed. "Childbirth takes a toll, and full recovery takes time. They wouldn't have detained her so early if they needed to wait this long for the final phase. There are other ways to keep her close. With today's medical technology, they might not even need her to fully recover to continue the experiment."

"So, what do you think they're waiting for?" Alexander asked Austin.

Austin is no longer his old self after experiencing so many hardships. His medical skills seem to have improved significantly, Alexander thought.

"I don't know," Austin replied. He only knew about the laboratory, the experiments, and the viruses. He'd never had direct contact with the organization's members or even known who they were. "Perhaps they're waiting for a specific opportunity." He frowned, turning to Mike. "Anyway, I doubt they'd want you even if you turned yourself into a vessel."

"Why not?" Mike was puzzled.

Didn't we move past that plan?

"Duh!" Austin shook his head. "Since they want Lily's body as the vessel, and Rhea wants to replace her, it's obvious the organization needs a female body, not a male one, right? They won't just accept any vessel, do you think?"

Mike was stumped. He makes a lot of sense.

"I think the most important thing now is to know where they're keeping Lily."

Regardless of the rescue plan, finding her was the first step.
