Anastasia realized she had overreacted and released his hand. "I was just wondering if you were going to meet Lily," she murmured.
Austin, thinking she was worried about Lily, chuckled. "No, I don't even know where she is now. She has her things to handle, and I have mine. She knows much more about herbal medicine than I do; I still have a lot to learn."
"So, where are you going then?" Anastasia asked.
"To my granduncle's house first. Then I might go to Middle Valley afterward." Austin gazed ahead, excitement evident in his expression.
"Middle Valley? That's far," Anastasia murmured.
Austin chuckled. "It's a bit far, but it's in the country. That area has many herbs and poisonous insects, so I should be able to learn a great deal."
Anastasia gasped at the mention of poisonous insects. "Won't it be dangerous? Are you sure about going?" Her worry was apparent.
In the past, Austin would have grown impatient, dismissing her concerns. However, having escaped death, he now appreciated the care of others. He said warmly, "Don't worry. Physicians like me often encounter such things. Besides, they're nothing compared to the virus."
After a moment's thought, Austin said earnestly, "I want to broaden my horizons to provide better treatment for my patients."
Anastasia sighed. "So, when do you plan to leave?"
"Next week, if everything goes as planned."
"So soon?" Anastasia blurted, then chuckled. "Anyway, you have my support. You've changed so much. I'm sure you'll be a truly remarkable doctor someday."
Embarrassed, Austin scratched the back of his head. "It's not fame I'm after. I just want to be a good doctor and serve people."
"Whatever it is, you have my support, okay?"
"Thanks!" Austin looked at her. "I think you've changed a lot, too."
Anastasia's eyes widened as she looked down. "Really? Did I lose weight?"
Austin shook his head. "No, it's not that. I mean your state of mind. You're much different now. You were somewhat... insecure when I first met you." He spoke cautiously, mindful of her feelings.
Anastasia showed a flicker of sadness, but quickly smiled and nodded. "You're right! I was."
