Chapter 21

Today was special, so Lily called Alexander early to greet him. At first, she thought he would refuse, but unexpectedly, he readily agreed. She even wondered if she'd misheard. However, since she was short on time, she decided to concentrate on the experiment.

After tonight, if the product was successful, she would take a few days off to rest and spend some quality time with Alexander. With that thought, she returned her focus to the experiment, carefully repeating the steps.

After splashing cold water on her face, Olivia felt more alert. She had barely left the washroom when she saw a tall man heading toward the lab, carrying two large bags.

"Freeze!" Olivia shouted, immediately running to block his path. "Who are you, and why are you here?" She stood tall, sizing him up.

The man was so tall that Olivia only reached his neck, diminishing the ferocity of her confrontation. He looked at her with a severe expression—a noble face with square jaws, thick brows, and large eyes.

Olivia, assuming outsiders weren't allowed, instinctively considered him suspicious.

The man lowered his head, glancing at her. "This little girl is petite, yet so fierce," he thought.

Olivia stared him in the eyes. He saw her fierceness, yet she seemed adorable. "I'm from the company," Edward replied evasively. Olivia didn't believe him. "Liar! I've worked here long enough to know all the employees. What's your name? Which department? Who's your department head? Why are you here?"

It was a critical point in the experiment. Did Nathaniel and Melanie (those two jerks) have ulterior motives? They might have sent someone to cause trouble. Past experiences had taught Olivia to be cautious, so she was constantly on guard.

Edward was speechless. He'd worked there for years, serving as Alexander's assistant and driver. Though not in a high position, he was always treated with respect. No one had ever dared to speak to him like that, let alone question him.

He didn't want to prolong the argument. "I'm here for Ms. Christian," he said.

His boss had instructed him not to reveal Lily's identity, hence the formality.

'He's looking for Lily?' Olivia found this even more problematic. "Why are you looking for her? Do you know her? She's swamped and has no time to see you. Tell me whatever you need to tell her." Edward was speechless again, the corners of his mouth twitching. He put his hand in his pocket and shrugged. "Um"

Only then did Olivia notice his large bags. They contained food—junk food, drinks, tacos, and… a bag of clothes?!
