Spoiled by Mr. Russell, Chapter 20
The two recognized each other simultaneously, exclaiming the same line almost in unison. Austin only knew he was to treat a young woman; he did not know it would be Anastasia. Meanwhile, Anastasia recognized him instantly as the "miracle doctor" who had previously treated herโa treatment later revealed to be fraudulent.
Anastasia recoiled, exclaiming, "No, you're not a doctor! You're a conman, and I won't let you treat me!"
Austin was embarrassed. "She's right. I was a conman. I treated many patients, but I wasn't a good doctor. I cared too much about fame."
"But I'm no longer a conman," Austin said patiently. "I'm the only one who can treat you."
Anastasia remained unconvinced. "I don't believe you! I don't need your help!"
"Listen," Austin said, his voice rising slightly as he gently took her shoulders to calm her. "Alex asked me to treat you. Lily wants it too!"
Hearing those names, Anastasia calmed slightly. Her eyes widened in confusion. "Alex and Lily?"
Austin nodded. "They have important matters to attend to, so they can't be here. Otherwise, you could choose Lily."
Anastasia hesitated. Though suspicious, she sensed his sincerity.
The person who had led Austin there approached, saying, "It's true, Ms. Rollins. He's the expert Mr. Russell hired."
Anastasia was convinced. Alexander's men wouldn't lie. Still, she asked tentatively, "Are you sure you can cure me?"
Her condition, though not critical, was highly uncomfortable. Nausea, stupor, and confinement to the ward due to the contagious virus all contributed to her distress. She understood the danger of leaving.
"I've cured many," Austin explained, "even those in worse condition. But you must do one thing."
Anastasia, encouraged by his claim, asked, "What?"
"I'll begin with acupuncture. You must cooperate and trust me." Austin knew her cooperation and trust were crucial for her recovery.
