Upon hearing Edward's words, Alexander looked over to see the empty safe lying on its side, the door flung open. It was clear someone had taken its contents. "Do you know what he stored in that safe?"
Edward shook his head. "It seemed to be some potion or drug developed by Rhea or the lab staff. It could also have been a virus, but I'm not sure. I'm not well-versed in the organization's inner workings."
Edward had remained concealed within the building for some time; revealing himself was too dangerous, limiting his access to information.
Alexander approached the safe, squatting before it and carefully examining it. Edward noticed Alexander's expression and approached. "What's wrong?"
Alexander didn't answer, instead turning to examine the safe's interior. Donning gloves, he felt around the safe, tapping lightly. Thud, thud. Click, clack.
"There's a hidden compartment?!" Edward exclaimed, noticing the unusual sounds.
Alexander glanced at Edward, remaining silent. He straightened the safe and searched until he found a latch. A faint click followed a slight pressure, revealing a compartment.
The compartment was shallow, holding little. Alexander felt around inside and pulled out a document envelope containing an important-looking parchment sealed with wax.
"That'sโฆ" Edward was surprised. Someone had already searched the area, yet this document remained undiscovered.
"Let's take it with us and examine it later," Alexander said, opening his coat and securing the envelope inside.
"Okay."
They couldn't stay long. With Cameron absent, they decided to leave immediately.
Two days had passed, and Lily was unusually quiet. She ate, slept, and cooperated with her treatments, but her silence was unnerving. Fortunately, the organization brought her children to see her daily. Before cooperating fully, she needed to ensure their safety. On the surface, she appeared patient, but deep down, she was calculating. Her cesarean section incision was nearly healed, and her physical condition was excellent, allowing for a relatively quick recovery.
Even so, she wasn't ready for strenuous activity. This childbirth had taken a significant toll. However, peaceful recovery wasn't an option; what awaited her was likely far more intense. Someone opened the ward door, and Lily glanced instinctively at the wall clock. It wasn't mealtime, nor was it time for her injections or medication. She turned to see the man entering.
"You look pretty good these past two days," the man said, leaning on his cane, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit.
"Has your boss agreed to see me?" Lily cut to the chase. "I can either eat, or die. Whether you want a living, healthy body or a dead one is your decision!"
