The doctor wiped his tears, nodding repeatedly before hastily producing a note. "This..." he began, the urgency of the situation evident with the nurses present, making covert communication challenging. Lily, however, cleverly understood with a single glance, sparing further explanation.

"Hmm," Edward murmured, taking the note but pocketing it unopened. "How's the young lady?"

"She's doing fine! Ms. Christian possesses incredible mental resilience. To endure in that environment... she's truly remarkable. I've never seen such strength," the doctor replied, before Edward's sharp interruption.

"Cut the crap!" Edward frowned.

"She and her unborn baby are safe and healthy; please rest assured," the doctor hastily corrected. "About my family..."

"They're safe," Edward assured him. "What did they ask you to do to her?"

"T-They gave me a vial of medicine... to inject into her," the doctor stammered, his honesty evident in his tremor.

"What kind of medicine?!" Edward's voice was sharp with alarm.

The doctor shook his head. "I don't know. But based on my experience, it's likely a slow-acting anesthetic."

"A slow-acting anesthetic?" Edward repeated, concern etching his features.

"Yes," the doctor nodded. "It gradually reduces resistance. Even the strongest person couldn't withstand prolonged administration."

"Wouldn't that harm her unborn child? Are there other risks?" Edward asked, the danger palpable. He clenched his fists, fighting to control his rage.

The doctor nodded. "Indeed. Prolonged administration could cause deformities, even stillbirth..."

"You..." Edward could restrain himself no longer, seizing the doctor's collar. "If you dareโ€”"

"No! I didn't inject her!" the doctor paled, his voice trembling.

"Are you sure?" Edward's gaze was skeptical.

The doctor nodded vehemently. "Yes! I knew it was harmful. They kidnapped my family, but I didn't inject herโ€”you helped save them. I secretly replaced the medication with a nutritional supplement. There won't be any problems."

"Are you sure?" Edward remained apprehensive.

"I guarantee it! I'm an expert. I wouldn't say otherwise," the doctor stated confidently.

Edward, after a moment's consideration, found the doctor's explanation plausible, given his desire to protect his family.

"Good. Remember, your family's safety is contingent upon Ms. Christian's. We may not be as ruthless, but we believe in retribution." He paused, the threat lingering. "An eye for an eye."

"I understand!" the doctor responded quickly. "But what now? Two heavily armed guards are at her door."
