Listen to this chapter:

"You had a fever," Alexander said, "and started throwing up blood. Don't you remember?"

Anastasia nodded. "I do. I just never thought my cold would become so severe."

"Listen," Alexander said gravely, "what you're experiencing might not be a regular cold or fever."

Puzzled, Anastasia looked up at him. Noticing his hazmat suit and her surroundings, she subconsciously raised her hands, murmuring, "Is it some kind of contagious disease?"

The recent pandemic in Burnwken immediately sprang to mind.

"Yes and no," Alexander replied, his answer seeming contradictory.

"Yes and no?" Anastasia was perplexed.

"Simply put," Alexander sighed, "I can't say for sure because I don't know what type of virus it is." The situation had unfolded rapidly and unexpectedly, leaving everyone struggling to cope. The post-pandemic period in Burnwken had seen a rise in similar, though less severe, incidents, overwhelming resources and causing widespread concern. Their limited understanding of these new viruses made containment crucial to prevent panic.

"Virus?" Anastasia's voice held a hint of fear. She tried to sit up, but lacked the strength. "Then... will I die soon?"

"No!" Alexander stated firmly.

Anastasia smiled weakly, shaking her head. "You don't have to lie to me, Alex. I know my body. I have no strength left. If my condition isn't severe, and I'm not dying, why am I here? Why did you tell me that? Be honest. I can handle it. I'm just worriedโ€”I haven't heard anything about my father. Has the police found anything out?"

"Don't overthink, okay?" Alexander said, stepping closer to reassure her. "It's not as bad as you imagine. While we don't know what type of virus it is, based on what we do know, it's not deadly."

"Really?" Anastasia eyed him skeptically.

Alexander nodded thoughtfully. Then, apologetically, he added, "I should apologize. I might be the one who infected you."

Anastasia was confused. "You? Are you infected too? But you look fine. Have you recovered?"

"It's a long story," Alexander explained briefly, knowing a full explanation would take time. "I might be a carrier, but I haven't shown any symptoms."
